Like you and others think - the kids must be under some spell or something for them to allow the clowns into the house. One kid letting it in, might be believable, but 3 kids? I think maybe the clown did something mentally to them to make them trust him and let him in. There are some great bits about this episode. I love Ash and his attitude, the brotherly moments. You could see when Dean was speaking with Ellen, Dean started to get emotional and then he just shut that off. Based on this episode alone you can see he doesn't like talking about his emotions. (no chick flick moments as mentioned in the pilot). It's painful to see him beating up the car at the end. But that hood was just a junk hood in real life - they replaced it for that scene lol.
