Continuation of February 23, 2021 “Grown-Up Time pt. 2

“Guess what, little guy?” said Mason, as he buttoned up the boys shirt and put his cute little tie on. “Were gonna get to spend all day at the park today!”

“Really?!” said Jakey, who suddenly stopped his fussing and fidgeting and sat up straight, all excited.

“That’s right, kiddo. We can bump your nap time a little forward from now on, since we don’t have to hurry to get you home anymore.”

Jakey didn’t really care about the details. He didn’t remember his work meetings that kept him busy every afternoon, or the high-pressure expectations that everyone had of him. He just knew that he loved playing on the playground, and more playtime meant more fun! As soon as his tie was tied up he hopped off the bed and was zooming around the room. Mason actually had to put a child harness on him he was so excited, and they hadn’t even left the house yet.

“Oh, boy. We are definitely switching you to sugar-free cereal,” he said to himself, as he was practically dragged downstairs by the rambunctious little.

“Stay with Daddy,” Mason said as he brought the stroller over to the minivan. “And no running into the road!”

He directed the boy into the carseat that was waiting for him and strapped him in before bringing the stroller in around back. Mason was kicking his legs and humming along to his favorite sing-along songs that Mason played for him in his car headphones. They helped strengthen the suggestions that kept his little boy little, though at this point they were just for entertainment. Jakey had no chance of getting his old self back, at least that’s what Ken had said. This was a good day to celebrate and they were going to do Jakey’s “most favoritest thing in the world” and take him to the park. It seemed appropriate, even if Jakey didn’t understand what they were celebrating.

Soon enough they arrived at the playground by West and Murray. They found parking right in front of the park, which was a miracle. Mason smiled. This day just kept getting better and better.

“Hold on there, sweetie,” said Mason as the unbuckled boy practically bounced right out of his seat. “I’ve got to get the stroll- you know what. You’re going in the stroller. I don’t care if the park’s right there.”

He led the boy to the stroller and sat him in, buckling him in securely.

“That oughtta hold the little firecracker,” he said, as he checked his messages. He looked up and saw a man waving to him, another guy sitting beside him and holding his hand.

“Well, well, well,” said Ken as the two of them approached. “Fancy meeting you here!”

“Hey, Ken! Good to see you in the flesh. Craig. Nice to meet you. I’ve heard so much about you.”

Mason gave Craig a wink that made him blush.

“Daddy? Who are they?” asked Jakey from his stroller.

“These are my good friends, Ken and Craig. Ken is Craig’s Daddy.”

“He is? Ooh! Does that mean Craig is my age? Can we play on the playground?!”

“I don’t know sweetie, we have to ask them!”

“Whaddya think, little guy?” asked Ken, putting his arm around Craig’s shoulders and giving him a squeeze.

Craig blushed and looked down at his lap.

“Aww, he’s a little shy around new people,” said Ken.

Jakey looked disappointed. Mason quickly changed the subject.

“So Craig, I hear you’re a talented sound editor.”

“Yeah, that’s right. I edit audio for Daddy and some other special clients.”

“He sure does,” said Ken. “That’s how we met. He’s just the best. Had to be real careful when he edited that file you used yesterday. We could only do a little bit at a time to make sure it didn’t take effect. By the way, how did that work for you?”

“See for yourself,” said Mason. “Jacob…”

“Yes, Daddy?”

Mason passed his hand over Jacobs eyes and said “Sleep,” pressing him forward from the back of his head.

Jacob immediately closed his eyes and fell forward into Mason’s hand.

“Jakey. When I snap my fingers Jacob is going to come out. You will be big Jacob again when I snap my fingers and say wake up. Do you understand?”

“I understand.”

“3. 2. 1. Wake up,” said Mason, snapping his fingers. Jakey came to.

“Daddy, Daddy! Lemme out! I wanna play on the playground with Craig!”

“Okay, sweetie, I’m letting you out, but I don’t know if Craig feels like playing on the playground.”

He turned back to the two men and gave them a wink. Ken and Craig looked at each other and Ken smiled.

“Congrats, Mason,” said Ken, turning back to man who was helping the munchkin out of his stroller. Then he turned his attention over to Jakey. “Hey, Jakey!Yyou wanna see a cool trick?”

“Yeah!” said Jakey, his eyes wide with excitement. He loved magic tricks.

Ken leaned closer to his companion and said, “Craig. It’s time to be little. Its time to be little Craig.”

Craig’s eyes went wide for a second and his demeanor quickly transformed into that of an energetic little boy.

“Daddy! Can I go play with the little boy?” he said, using his outside voice.

“Yes, you can, sweetie. And his name is Jakey. Why don’t you introduce yourself?”

Craig hopped off the bench and extended his hand.

“Hi, Jakey! I’m Craig. Nice to meetcha!”

“Hi Craig! Let’s go play!”

The two of them ran off, and Mason joined Ken on the bench.

“They’re so cute like that, aren’t they?” said Ken.

“They sure are. That mind wiper was worth every penny. I wouldn’t want my little Jakey any other way.”

“That’s great, Mason. It really is. But you know, you no longer have a boyfriend. Having a little guy is great but eventually you’re going to miss the companionship of another man. What are you going to do about that?”

“Well, gee, I don’t know,” said Craig, scootching a little closer to Ken. “Have you got any ideas?”

Ken put his arm around Mason. “Maybe a few…”

Mason looked up to Ken and blushed a bit. They had been talking quite a bit since he had contacted the man about his boyfriend. He didn’t resist as Ken leaned forward and drew him into a kiss. This felt right, he thought, after, as he leaned against the man, watching the little ones play. This day really did just get better and better.
