The description 😂

This episode is the turning point for me. I've watched this anime soooooo many times and before this episode there's a ton of great stuff, but from this episode on there's nothing I'd even think of skipping on a rewatch. It's only up from here

I just got COVID a day before my birthday, for the first time too, so this upload is a nice distraction. It's probably one of the most exposition heavy episodes in the whole show, but it does a great job of giving us an example of how Nen fights work. Hisoka's use of his abilities never gets tiring to watch. I find it fitting that the guy who lives and breathes fighting has super adaptable abilities. As someone who loves to nerd out about power systems, I love how creative Nen fights can be. There's much more to come, but for now always remember that Bungee Gum has the properties of both rubber and gum.

Kastro was fully capable of defeating Hisoka but still got defeated in a humiliating way because he lost his cool. Kastro is also dead, Hisoka was just talking about the reason he spared him last time.

18:50 and the speech about Hisoka truly enjoying the artform itself and therefore mastering it: this is, in a nutshell, the biggest struggle I face as a Japanese teacher. "I want to speak Japanese" can mean many, many things, but only rarely does it mean "I enjoy the act of learning Japanese." Part of my job is to try to make it more enjoyable, or at least help them find something in the process they can enjoy, but people also want results, and I don't blame them.

One important quality of Hisoka this episode shows is his fickleness. He clearly had his eye on Kastro for while, as Kastro got 9 wins before their current match and did a lot of training. But at the end, Hisoka simply called him disappointing and the pink-haired girl said he probably forgot about him already.

The Troupe!!!!!

Hisoka is very much a Hedonist. He chases after immediate pleasure with singleminded intensity for long periods of time, but may simply lose interest on a whim for something he was previously interested in.

“Was his midsection always like that?” Nope, he was in a different outfit in the hunter exam. He changes outfits a couple times, but this pink one stands out because of the weird ball belly lol

macrowave

He also changes the shapes on his face to go with his outfits

Coincidentally I first had this discussion with a friend about Japanese. People would often ask him about his secret, when of course there wasn't one. He just enjoyed it and worked really hard at it

Did you notice Hisoka's prediction about Kastro's death? "You will die in a frenzied dance." When he threw his cards into all of his limbs, Kastro was moving as his limbs were independent from his body. Just as Hisoka predicted.

cade-carter

How did you miss Kastro dying? Hisoka basically says h will kill him with his prediction of the dance, then when he throws the cards they hit his lungs and heart aswell as all his limbs. He even flails as if dancing.

And the audience presumably cheered. 🤔

"Bungee Gum has the properties of both rubber and gum." we're gonna be hearing this a lot from now on

"Can a person be so great that they become their own self-generating source of connection and love? Absolutely. But it depends on what you mean by "great"? Personally, I don't believe greatness is solely defined by your skills. I think greatness is a by-product of how you feel. As you said, masters of their craft only become such because of their endless passion toward something. I don't believe you can be both passionate and miserable at the same time. By miserable, I don't mean going through hardship, but more like being a downer toward your own self. So, if greatness starts from how you feel, and countless studies have shown that by taking a conscious approach to our thinking, we can influence our emotions, perspectives, and so on (ex: through meditation, cognitive behavioral therapy, affirmations, etc), then it stands to reason that we can literally influence ourselves to where greatness becomes our natural output. So many of us walk around carrying ideas that are entirely not ours, but something that we unconsciously pick up along the way (from our environment, teachers, parents, etc). Those ideas that tell us that we're not good enough, not worthy enough, etc etc, that limit us from even attempting to think bigger. And I think this is the main culprit that suffocates our true potential. And so, this journey to greatness has to start at the source, which is our own headspace. And a sense of connection, love, passion, fulfillment, all happen in the same headspace. So, by that logic, one technically can become completely self-sufficient in one's emotional needs (by consciously choosing what perspectives to entertain), and at the same time be truly great as you envision it. Sure, it takes work, but it's not impossible in my opinion.

I love how they show it wasn't just about power (in a way), it included a lot of parlor tricks and mind games. I mean Hisoka said Kastro was right on the money but he still couldn't figure out how Hisoka did what he did. The thing with him and the girl I never reading that much into it. I’m probably wrong but I think she knows him enough to know he’s a heckler. He loves to get under peoples skin.

Patiently waiting for goodwin to absolutely raw binge the entire show on new eve, so we can digest everything from start to finish at once

Szandor Kane

I'd say, judging from both anime and manga, that he does have a thing for her, but it's very passing as you'd expect from Hisoka?

Szandor Kane

Kastro's defeat is somewhat quintessential. Like Hisoka said, he actually stood a fair chance, I'd even say he could have beaten him if he had stayed entirely calm. Almost anything can happen in a Nen fight, with how extremely diverse the applications are, it's not just "this guy has more aura than that guy, so he stands no chance".

Chris Sharpe

In the anime, he invites her to dinner, but in the manga he invited her to “stay the night”. His interactions seemed a bit less like some of his other aroused reactions, so his regular sexual desire is probably different from his arousal in battle.

quick reminder just in case you missed it: Bungee Gum in fact has the properties of both rubber and gum. 😁
