Firstly, thanks to the stop and starting of the episode for your analysis I definitely didn’t weep throughout the episode like I usually do. However, just the sight of a lil kids feet kicking the air made me sob once again without fail. His little boy was waiting for him to join him. 😭 Gardar’s final journey is devastating. This episode doesn’t just give us this man’s life, but it’s a reminder of all the slaves of history and today. Sverkel called slaves “unlucky” last episode. It would be soo easy to judge Gardar as a victim of his dream of ‘honour and wealth’ but Yukimura never does that. There is an understanding in this lil arc that Gardar represents humanity clinging to life when everything has fallen apart. We don’t know when our “unlucky” turn is. And we may have the best of intentions just like Gardar did, but still fail. I never can fully articulate how I feel about this arc. It feels futile and inevitable that it ends in tragedy… and yet the combined efforts of everyone to make this man’s last ride peaceful… it feels enough somehow. Lastly I strongly urge everyone to rewatch the fight between Askeladd and Thors in 1x4 and then watch Snake and Thorfinn again here in 2x17. It’s practically a mirror. Thorfinn and Askeladd lost the fight in the same way, they thought they had the upper hand but they were both tricked into thinking that. They both focused too much on the technicality of the fight, whereas Snake and Thors looked at the bigger picture. Even some of the choreography and ‘camera work’ is similar. And now Thorfinn is left with a scar on his face, a reminder that his resolve failed that day. (I’ll explore that further in the next episodes)

so great. I was also shocked when snake did what he did. But it also gave me great perspective for comparing snake and thorfinn and the differences in their journeys and the morals they hold. Can't wait for more of this and Haikyuu!!
