There’s no way Einar doesn’t have anger towards violence. “My family was killed and I was enslaved”. Still it did not become “all warriors are enemies” or “all Danes are enemies”. Sane by the end. It became even better with the reorganisation and direction of the animation. It’s obvious, but no one wants to go to war…. I want to think so. But I don’t know anyone who has returned from the battlefield so I don’t know. “I love war! Killing a weak man makes me feel refreshed!” Some people may say that. It’s really great that Einar doesn’t hate Thorfinn. I’ve been thinking about this cursed, unanswerable “war” for a long time. Let’s draw it in an anime. Make a manga about what you think.” Such a stellar episode (going to be saying that ALOT this season). The use of nature I found in particular was soo perfectly done. From the sheer amount of trees to be cut and the amount of dead trees on the ground depicting Thorfinn’s unknown death count. To the depiction of Thorfinn and Einar’s relationship as the mother and child hedgehog (soo sweet!) Vinland Saga just never lets up on visual storytelling. You talking about how characters/people who don’t say much actually really display who they are reminds of how Vinland’s storytelling works here. The story doesn’t have to say much to convey exactly what it wants too. Let two men talk for over half the episode and let it breath and it will be captivating as hell!

It's been a delight so far. It just hit me that the very comical "it was all just a prologue" nature of season 1 really does work well here. We've been through it all with Thorfinn

And that “it was all just a prologue” feeling just intensifies the further along the story you go. It’s kinda crazy and awesome that season 1 is a still a 10/10 and yet everything ahead is just miles better (for me anyway)

I absolutely love how in the manga and in the anime, especially in the scene in the barn this episode, but really in all the episodes, how Thorfinns expressions are drawn in such a vulnerable way. It really feels like Einar is looking at a child in some shots. It’s just really emotional visual storytelling. And it only intensifies as the season continues. Love this story.

Beautiful reaction as always. This is where the show gets really really good in my opinion. The scene with Einar and Thorfinn always gets me. I dealt with PTSD related nightmares for most of my adult life and the care with which they convey that experience is not lost on me.

Einar is a true bro. He has every reason in the world to hate Thorfinn. A lesser man would've written him off. Get you a bro that'll wake you up from your night terrors even while you're quarreling.
