Such a great reaction to an even greater show. Loving the commentary too. Can't wait for more!

Even with the final episode of season 2 releasing this Monday I still have your amazing reaction/reviews to look forward to! Really looking forward to all that lies ahead for you. Yukimura the creator always writes a thread on Twitter after each episode and here’s the one for 2x3 which just makes me feel soo many feelings “Not a single good thing has happened in my entire life” it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that I wrote the boyhood war story to get you to say this line. Sorry Thorfinn. Everyone is constantly growing or changing. I think that’s a good thing. You may be able to do tomorrow what you can’t do today. I think there is hope for tomorrow because there is growth and change. It’s hard to live today if you don’t have hope for tomorrow. Do your best.” Yukimura has gone on record many times that the prologue was very much created so he could get Thorfinn to this point. Also a really great detail I love is that he has said the two characters that were very much intentionally created for Thorfinn are Askeladd and Einar.

It's always so delightful to read Yukimura sensei's comments and also watch his interviews. He has a way with words and is such a great storyteller. After watching episode 23, I felt (as corny as it sounds) so grateful to have experienced Vinland Saga and Thorfinn's journey every week. It was such a cathartic watch. Stories like this come once every few years. And rewatching it again with Goodwin's commentary is something to look forward to after the void it's going to leave behind after the last episode.

I have them all saved so I can post them with each upload! Here’s the ones you missed for 2x1 “Einar … what a terrible experience. “Shouldn’t slaves be tied up so they don’t run?” That’s what you think. But if you tie them with chains or something they get in the way of making them work. So to force a slave to give up running away, pull him from the land where he used to live. Take him to an unknown land. Terrible. Vikings! The trick is to make the slave think “I’d rather be a slave that try to force myself to be free.” So it seems that the treatment of slaves was not so bad. I can eat properly… “ “Thank you for watching Vinland Saga Season 2. This era where we can watch the same anime at the same time across borders is wonderful. I want to make a work that can be enjoyed beyond the differences of ethnicity, generation and gender.” Now for 2x2 (I edited it down a bit I think because he was talking about errors he made in his original manga about farming that they fixed in the anime. He was definitely amused by it!) “Einar has a nice voice. The voice of a young, big man. Before hearing Takeuchi Shunsuke there must have been Einar’s voice in my head for a long time, but I can’t remember anymore. Completely overwritten. As soon as the voice actor puts his voice in, he becomes a ‘living human being.’ That’s amazing!”

It's so nice to hear actual substance from your commentary, as opposed to crunchyroll's comment section of "farmland saga so boring, where's all the fighting, Thorfinn is so lame now". It's like people forgot what the central theme of the show has been since the very beginning. There are so many action/adventures for people to drool over cool fights and sakuga, so I don't understand the need to lament the loss of something that was never in short supply. It's like super depressing, sure, and the pace is slower, but by the end we're gonna feel like we went on that journey with Thorfinn, and I find that satisfying.

I did find it boring, and not because of lack of fights. It's super depressing, i don't like when there's portrayal of rape in any type of media either. It just felt unsatisfying, after all that he went through, as if it's a different anime. I also don't find his pacifist ideology compelling or realistic, person like that would've died very quickly

glad you are reacting to this show. this season will deal with a lot of the philosophy you discussed here

Well thanks for the spoilers, @Egrassa. I would have thought that comments wouldn't delve into what happens after the episode being reacted to. Like really, c'mon man, the original comment was about Alex's reaction to these current episodes, not what happens later.
