"The singing sounds really familiar too." Bump of Chicken (the OP band) is in a whole lot of things. They have a very distinct aesthetic. Here's one of their more popular songs: https://youtu.be/IQOhCvlkYps 3:34 "Fanks" from Anya is a recurring theme. She usually fails when she tries to use polite Japanese. "arigato gozaimasu" in Anya speech is "azasamasu." It's become somewhat of a meme in Japan these past few weeks. 4:19 The pet shop is "Kemono Park." (Kemono = "Beast / Monster.") It's really interesting how this show is blending a supposedly European setting with random Japanese words written in the Roman alphabet, haha. 9:25 "Is there a word for bomb dogs in Japanese?" My mOmENt hAs fINaLLy cOMe! haha. Why yes, there are several! The show calls them 爆弾犬, 'bakudan-ken,' but the more common technical term is 対戦車犬, 'tai-sensha-ken' or "anti-tank dogs." Tragically, they were indeed a real thing, especially in the Soviet Union, where dogs would be trained to run at tanks or other targets and then detonated when they got close enough. It's one of the more horrific aspects of WWII, and something that's taught in Japanese history textbooks today. Next episode has my favorite speech so far in the series. :) Looking forward to it.
