Fair question. As someone who's read the Manga, but without spoiling anything, I'd say it toes the line. Like, it goes into some things, for example the reality of war, so it's not glossing over these deeper issues, but I still feel really confident that nothing is gonna go horribly wrong. My guess is that the bonds being forged will outweigh everything else in the end. Taking Yuri as an example, his main characteristic is his love for his sister, I just can't see him choosing anything that would make her sad, so I wouldn't be surprised if he could be turned if Yor is the one asking. Of course, she'd have to be in the know to do that... Also, Anya is sort of a Joker, whenever things get dicey you just need her to redirect them, that should work for a while.
