this ending didnt compare to eden to me the first time i heard it, but over time it became my favorite. maybe it’s because i was always in tears when it was playing and it really pulls my heartstrings any time i hear it but i love it !! also i find it hilarious how at the end you said momiji was too young to be in a romantic pair or ship yet he’s the same age as haru, it always trips me out. great reaction as always, cant wait for you to watch this finale, it’s truly the best :)

Oh man i'm with you... i'm still bitter that they only did 13 episodes for the last season when they could've done a full 20-25 with all the stuff they cut out of the show:'( .. like i guess it wasn't super important but it definitely helps with the whole flow of the show imo. Although i will say they still did a really good job at including all the important content and smushing it into 13 episodes.. Also yeah.. as much as i love this op and ed.. home and eden are still my favorite out of all of fruits baskets songs

Yeah a lot of things like Momiji's and Haru's ages come off better in the sub. Its hard to remember exact ages when they are both the same age and Haru looks like a goddamn supermodel gigachad.

This episode really explores the idea of Tohru and Akito being direct foils for one another. One of them has a mother they clearly want to see die and the other has a dead mother that had left their daughter far too early.

This is an amazing season. Sure there's some manga stuff cut which is a bummer, but it's still a masterpiece that can be fully enjoyed, all the most important stuff is there. It really feels like you're on a roller coaster of emotions the whole season, to the point where people would be posting online about how they're crying every episode lmao

I was so mad I almost dropped the show before any of the episodes came out, but than I found out that because of the material they cut out due to *cough* controversy *cough* it actually works totally fine to adapt the remaining chapters in a short one cour season.

Actually someone did the math and if they included all the cut stuff throughout the series there would still only be 18 episodes! That's actually really good for an anime adaptation tbh, I think people just wish there was more cuz of how good of a series this is, which is understandable

Yup, Akito's sob story incoming. Of course, she deserves Tohru's endless sympathy just as much as any of the other zodiac members. Ren is a real piece of work. She was implying that the "bond" Akito holds so sacred is not love, only a chain that is chafing them all. Apparently, Ren's love with Akito's father (Akira) was the "real" love, a real bond. She's nuts, but I do have one tiny bit of sympathy for her because to wake up the morning after a nice sexy night with your husband to find four young boys pawing at your tummy and telling you you're preggers with a god has to be freaky. Hana-chan and Uo-chan are the bestest friends Tohru could ever have. Uotani- hang in there. Tohru is going to fix everything (even herself) because this is the final season of Fruits Basket and if Tohru can't fix everything, then what was the damn point?! And, yes, watch that opening scene with the god's banquet again...that is the cat being cradled in his arms. We haven't heard the real tale of the banquet yet.

This season is the funniest in that there will just be the most batshit insane ending to an episode that leaves you in tears, then the upbeat ed kicks in like "💃da nananana💃"

I love how central theme of motherhood is throughout fruits basket. It something I’ve never seen so throughly explored in really any media I’ve experienced before. Nearly every fruits basket character’s trauma can be traced to their relationship’s with there moms.

this damn episode it took me...i think a couple of episodes later to realize Ren was saying Akira NOT Akito like i'm sorry maybe don't name ur important characters so close together Rin/Ren Akito/Akira and then Hana my lovely Hana with that wonderous smile <3 TOHRU PLEASE UR GONNA MAKE ME CRY STAHP MY BABIES ARE SO PRECIOUS yes the ED has spoilers BUT the beginning of it changes...every couple of eps?? I'm extremely unsure because i skip ED's 90% of the time and i didn't notice till the last couple of eps and as far as i am aware that's the manga version of the characters??? god I'm so excited for this season

And so, that's why I think this would have make a better end for season 2. All the pieces would have been droped and yhe bitter sweet would have remain. Sure, Tohru is back on her feet. But at what price ? There is so much to discuss with this episode... First, the op. I have problem with focusing that much on the "romance" side of things, putting Tohru to the side like she doesn't really matter. She's the main character, the one that always push things forward. Yet, it's a good opening. As for the ending, it made me cry the first time I heard it. Especially as a manga reader. This is Takaya's sensei art, improved over the years, and it just looks beautiful. You can see everyone dreams, with Tohru private one at the beggining. And it will change at times, when big things happens. Now, on the episode itself. Finally digging deeper in Akito's mind ! Tohru had sensed it since the beach arc, but yeah. Akito is as wonded as the others. Thing is, she has the power to make other people suffer for it. As you guessed, her father is now deceased. The one who told her she was special, born to be love... On the other hand, her mother is still there, but cruel and steeping over everything she believe in. Of course they would be conflict. That's why Akito and Tohru are such a miror of one another. A parent grief bound their life, even if they took different ways. Tohru choose to sacrifice herselfs, while Akito wants everyone to be by her side. That comes from a very deep fear of being alone. At that point in the manga, we knew how Katsuya's death affected Kyoko and Tohru, so why her mother's death affected Tohru so much. The movie is coming next year, and things were already hinted at in the anime. But yeah, Tohru's mindset was build when she was around three. There is good in Akito too, who still able to think of other people. Like she did with Kureno in the beach arc. She wanted to come because he was looking down. Not the perfect way to express it, but there is ground for it. We understand better why she is extremely violent with the women of the zodiacs. Her own mother is a threat. Isuzu looking exactly like her mean she was goind to pay the worst. And she didn't choose the way she supposed to look. A girl raised as a man, with duty over an entire family, while being brough as a seperate being for a bunch of people who might eventually leave if the curse broke again. I feel si bad for Akito, maybe because she's like me, in a way. Just like Tohru or Yuki are. Can't wait for you to watch next episode x)

Hey, i really hope you are able to read this comment. I just want to bring something up about Tohru thats going to be important this season. In this season, Tohru's way of speaking will be brought up quite often. In the subtitles and in the dub, this is just explained away as her "polite way of speaking." But its actually deeper than that. Tohru constantly speaks in Keigo, which is a form of Japanese speech that is only used in very formal situations. Its not a way of speaking that people use in their day to day lives. Tohru speaks this way all the time. If you had been a japanese speaker/viewer, you would've noticed this odd thing about Tohru from day 1. I think having this knowledge ahead of time will enhance your understanding of some of season 3s plot points. This is not a spoiler. This is something the author intended you to question from the very first chapter. Its just that our language barrier kinda removes this nuance.

One big trait of keigo is humbleness, so Tohru speaking it is a constant subtle reminder of how deeply her giving nature and habit of putting others first is ingrained in her every action. Keigo is used most often in the workplace, so I guess if I had to pin down the closest English parallel for Tohru's cheerful yet polite manner of speech... Flight attendant? Imagine Tohru speaking like a flight attendant. *nods*

Maybe this was mentioned before, but in Japanese, Akito refers to herself as male, she uses "boku" to say "I", which is masculine, also she uses a more manly way of speaking. This manga is also from the 90' and 00' and in that period in Japan men that looked feminine were very popular, that's why Yuki, who has a "girly" face, was so popular at school and people wanted him to dress as a girl. That's why Akito not looking very "manly" was not a weird design at all and made the whole "Akito is a woman" a lot more surprising to the audience and the characters.

Love your reactions to Fruits Baskets & others! ♡ Just wanted to mention that Momiji is the same age as Haru: both of them being a year younger than Tohru, Kyo & Yuki. I only mention that going off of what you were saying about the future pairings of FB because you said Momiji is a bit too young for a relationship. But speaking of ages, ofc, someone can always comment and correct but at this point in time of the show, I think Tohru, Kyo, Yuki, Uotani & Hanajima are like 18 years old. Momiji & Haru being 17 years old. Rin is 18-19 years old Hiro & Kisa are about 13 years old Kagura is 20 years old Ayame, Hatori & Shigure are all 28 years old Kureno is 27 years old Akito is 20 years old & Good ol Ritsu (had to look them up bc I honestly didn’t know myself) is only 22. At the start of the show, every one was two years younger being two years has passed since Kyoko’s death.

Akitos age is never confirmed beyond being in her 20s. My guess is that shes 22-25 years old.

Not really important but Akito choking out Ren is another part of the story the animators decided to over-dramatize, similar to changing Kyo pushing Tohru (manga) to him yeeting her into a creek (anime). That interaction wasn't as dramatic or over the top in the manga (from what I remember at least) as it is the anime with them flying across a few rooms and a courtyard
