I decided to split up the movie into two parts to make editing a little more manageable so that just means the start of season 3 is pushed back by one MHA slot :)

This movie is a hell of a ride. I watched it after I finished 5th season, and man I'm still with a HUH?

Athena

All Might's hero debut was in the US

Nick

You know I didn't totally hate the movie but it felt too tropey and disconnected if that makes sense. Super enjoyable still though I've heard this is manga Canon, can people who have seen further into the show tell me if this movie's plot is actually relevant later on?? without specific spoilers

Anonymous

Just got another Star Wars reference with the 66 from the not suspicious at all men, Order 66 is the order to kill all the Jedi

Nick

Explains his love for state smashes

The movie isn't technically canon, although there's nothing in canon that contradicts it either. It kind of falls into a gray area where the movie could have happened alongside the events of the manga/anime, but the actual main series needs to stand on its own so the movie events aren't directly referenced later on.

Aura Y

Every heroes' ultimate weakness: a gun (+/- seatbelts)! It's impressive how all the students are willing to embrace the risk of being a hero and step up (even if potentially ill-advised) to being the heroes they want to be. Melissa also seems to fits in so well. She's just another sweet person who wants to help others. Look forward to the 2nd part :)

I like this movie this movie, its just a shame that it (and most other anime movies) aren't really canon.

Francesca White

i love how this movie showcases how the support specialists are just as important to maintaining peace as the heroes themselves, like without all the cool tech they make the society wouldn't have come nearly as far as it has

Anonymous

It is canon, it’s just not mentioned in the actual show.

NitrousOxide19

deku isnt being judgmental towards Melissa being quirkless, after all he was quirkless too. he was worried thats all

benj

Fun, exciting movie that fits the feel and vibe of the show. I will take all the Class 1-A interaction content and cool quirk action content this studio wants to feed me, regardless of whether its canon or not.

Anonymous

Hi completely unrelated to MHA but when are you starting invincible? It was my favorite show of this year so far and super hyped you’re gonna be watching it

MikeWest

I just started watching this, but I've already decided that my comment will be about America represented in Anime, and how it's always the funniest thing ever. The 400 cop car drift followed immediately by "Cow Girl" will stay with me for a while.

Emma Root

To me it seemed like he was kinda being blinded by his own bias in his reactions, so he wasn't judgmental per se, he just still sorta has his mindset that quirkless people can't be heroes and are highly disadvantaged, which had a huge impact on him growing up, and in his mind at least him being quirkless was the reason he previously thought he couldn't be a hero and the reason he was bullied and no longer friends with Bakugou and things like that. That's sorta guesswork but that's how I see his perception of quirklessness.

Skyler Anderson

Something about your reactions to my hero that I love so much compared to others is that you enjoy the slice of life stuff because you're invested in the characters themselves. So many people I know dropped the series because "oh i got bored during the school stuff" and other stuff like that but it's so refreshing to see someone who just outright loves that stuff as much if not more than the action. This movie is a real fun one and I don't think it adds a lot to the plot at all or really any deep thinking, it's kinda just a normal non-canon type anime film, but I think it's really fun regardless. Also yeah the beginning of the movie is from All Might in the past. After graduating from high school I believe he traveled to America for a time being and then came back to Japan. They do kinda make sure that this movie could be canon in the way that they just don't introduce ideas that don't line up with the story, like David Shield was his sidekick in the USA despite if people say the movie isn't canon. Anyways, great reaction and I'm excited for part 2! p.s - I've just come to accept that I'm Stephen Anderson now

ComicalSkate

So it's My Hero Academia: Diehard? I'm totally down for this!

themightyabe

There's an interesting implication for Deku after the way he acted condescendingly towards the end. I don't think he understands his own worth. He also projects an image of himself onto her which was super weird (because it was hard for me it must be hard for you). I think that Deku being denied his dream by everyone at such a young age has had longer lasting effects than I initially thought.

Jacob Keyser

I mean techanicly the island is in international waters

Kamolak

with your option a vs option b talk and there usually being an option c while finding out what the constraints are is how I've been thinking about politics lately

agoodwintv

That's a great point... in a way by getting what he wanted there was a lesson avoided about self-worth.

BotheredAsh

I think deku's bias comes from him actually being helpless when he was quirkless. So even though it seems like he might be kinda looking down on Melissa, not maliciously of course, that's just what his reality was before he got one for all.

BotheredAsh

Also, this movie is pretty good but I feel like the next movie is even better and I can't wait to see what happens in the 3rd one coming out soon.

What has attack on titan done to you? "Can we really trust her?" xD!

Anonymous

Been wanting to watch this! Super fun so far, your skepticism is growing exponentially lmfao from scientists to birds nothing can be trusted

Stephen

I asked for this in the comments and it happened... :D

Kelsey Roberts

I know you don't get much into shipping, but there is actually quite a bit of random subtext including romantic traditions in Japanese culture that the author has put between Bakugo and Kirishima. The vest Bakugo is wearing has white roses, which symbolize pure, unconditional love. How sweet that Kirishima found that for him. There is more subtext later in the series, but I just think this is a cute detail in this movie. I will say that the author Horikoshi doesn't shy away from gender and sexuality, and I would personally find it very compelling for Bakugo and Kirishima to be lil boyfriends. Their camaraderie is at the very least extremely compelling.

Destini

I’m glad you’re liking it so far and I don’t think Deku was trying to come off judgmental, more of a like curious/concerned reaction haha

Nick

"And that's how Deku went from one punch man to three punch man" And that's another reason why I watch your videos lmao Edit: I watched this in sub last night and it's weird how they censored All Might saying shit so far. Probably since it's a movie? Instead of saying shit at one point he says "Villain!" lmao Just realized why invisible girl is one of the people stuck out of the action. It's because she would literally be OP here

Revin MacGrath

"Were connected by a bond far thicker than blood." Yeah. Hair.

Brimmy

"I'm enjoying their fashion choices?" OH MY GOD JUST WAIT FOR SEASON 3 IT GETS EVEN BETTER LMAO I love that Kirishima has zero sense of direction XD poor bakugo XD also i haven't watched these movies yet so i'm going into them as blind as u :3

thevoidbender

You mean Mount Lady? 😂 😂 😂 look at my butt girl I’m dying.

Nick

Edit edit: Just watched the recap episode of season 3, honestly it's worth watching simply because the beach Deku trained at is included in it

Anonymous

Personally, I feel deku projects a lot of his own insecurities on Melissa when he finds out she has no quirk. It reminds him of how helpless he felt back when he had no quirk, I don't he's biased against her.

Jo

There's also the fact that Kirishima bringing a suit for Bakugou means he already knew all of Bakugou's measurements haha

Jo

Though this movie definitely feels disconnected and kinda tropey, I still really enjoy it for that MHA feel it has. Plus, it is technically canon, even if it doesn't have MASSIVE implications on the series as a whole, there are a number of small references to it as the series goes on, both in the anime and the manga.

Anonymous

the most spoilery thing associated with this movie is a short titled "all might: rising" that came with the DVD. i recommend you watch it AFTER finishing S3, as it's an actual, meaningful spoiler.

Muchymozzarella

You know what, I totally forgot, but you should do a reaction to the dub bloopers! The ones for this movie in particular are hilarious.
