I think the most surprising part of this episode was that Eren didn't wake up for vengeance but instead woke up because he desires the freedom to explore the world. It shows his character is not just a simple revenge cliche but has more too it. I'm sure there are some metaphoric meaning to his family and house burning away as he wakes up. It's really nice how much confidence Armin has gotten in the past few episodes. BTW Mikasa is like 15 at this points and Ian looks to be in his twenties imo. It'd be a bit weird for him to be going after Mikasa. I think he just recongized her skill and decided to have her join. He doesn't know their situation but he knows she has been protecting Eren rather fiercely so he just assumed boyfriend.

Attack on Titan is really great at setting up complex and difficult situations and creating tension from each character’s differing but equally valid/understandable perspective on how to handle it. It’s soooo compelling

So far I’m loving your reactions and thoughts. Also like you said I think Armin internalized all of what’s happened for sure. I think it was mainly that multiple of his plans actually worked, and he realized Eren and Mikasa value him the same as he values them I really do love every season of this show which is rare, but seasons 2, 3 and 4 are on another level so I can’t wait. Glad you’re liking it so far

Awesome, I'm glad. One notable thing about Armin this episode I think is that he was partly responsible for the plan. And when it started to go wrong, instead of getting shaky hands, he went to try to take care of it, and he actually did. Very cool stuff

I love this first season, and it is better on rewatch like everyone is saying for obvious reasons. But Holy. Shit. I am dying for you to get to Season's 2 and beyond. Not gonna spoil anything but god damn. Most general way I can put it is this show's genre changes multiple times, at least in my opinion.

Love the line "Because I was born into this world!" I personally think that the simple reasoning about why Eren wants to join the Survey Corps and go to the outside world is so relatable and human. That there's no fancy, uniquely Eren motivation as to why he has this desire and that him being born into this world is enough reason. Great reaction Goodwin! My favourite character is Jean as I feel he is the most relatable and human of many of the characters. If I was in this world, I honestly don't believe I'd be brave enough to go into the Survey Corps with 100% conviction and would constantly be doubting and questioning myself about everything. Him struggling between his survival instinct and knowledge of what's the right thing to do is something I connect with.
