Killua knows his geopolitics

I might have mentioned this a few times, but Togashi in an interview said that the only events of the story he had planned out when he started were the first 3 chapters. He knew some of the main characters, but not events. The fact that he can create a story that is so cohesive speaks to how much he knows his characters, since they are his only guide to what comes next in the story.
