I've played Dungeons and Dragons for 20 years, starting when I was in me teens. It's how me and my lifelong friends have stayed in touch for so long. The first edition I played was 3.5 (so damn math and rules heavy) played 4th ed for like a year before venturing off to other TTRPGs then we've been playing 5th ed since 2015. Also fun fact: The creator of Gravity Falls, Alex Hirsch has never played D&D in his life and has no idea how it's played. The fact that he and the crew got it so right in this episode is despite that is what makes it so hilarious.

The Infinity Die doesn't remind me of Jumani so much as it reminds me of this other movie called Zathura: A Space Adventure. Like Jumani, the game becomes real, but like the Infinity Die, rolling/moving spaces and picking up cards alters reality in almost infinite, unpredictable ways and can have potentially deadly or catastrophic consequences for the players. It's been a while since I watched it, but I highly recommend it to anyone who likes Jumanji/Jumanji-esq movies. 👍🏻

It helps that Jumanji and Zathura are sister series, to the point where Jumanji boards had a Zathura board on the other side when you flipped it over. And this was in the 90s, years before the movie adaptation of Zathura came out. So it makes sense that both movies have similar vibes.

I'll have you know, there's no such thing as a 38-sided die! (Of course, that just adds to the joke.) I do own a 24-sided die and a 30-sided die, though...

Ford is easily the dumbest smart person alive. You'll find out in a later episode just how foolish he can be. Poor containment for omnipotent dice is just the tip of the iceberg. And for all his idiocy, an argument can be made that Stanley is the smarter twin. He did rebuild the portal singlehandedly after all despite having absolutely no schooling on the subject.

Yup. That was the 90s. If they couldn't sell it, they made it rap. Kids love the rap! D&D player here! On and off since my highschool days. More off than on, but fairly consistently in recent years. Currently playing a Westward Marches Campaign as a Githzarai Warlock. Prior to that, a Dwarven Cleric who was keeping our band of idiots alive (sort of, the 2 character deaths were beyond my control). And for a one-shot Halloween campaign I played an overly cheerful Death Cleric who has become part of our table's lore. Every now and then I randomize Race and Class and roll up a character if the combination looks fun. Keeps the game fresh.
