Around this point the fans were getting seriously frustrated with the mystery's pace, and the reveal that this Selene had nothing to do with the spear naturally didn't do much to fix that. Though a big part was also Disney's weird scheduling where we could go months between episodes, so hopefully it goes down easier like this.

if you like greek and roman mythology you should watch epic the musical, there are a lot fo anamatics on youtube if you haven't. it's a musical about the odyssey. though you might want to wait if you do since the last saga released ended on a cliffhanger

Kev Rink

The mystery's pace? You mean slow? That's how they get you to watch, by giving you small pieces at a time and get you invested. And clearly the spear is named after Della's best friend.

Oh yes, we stan Medusa here! 💚 Such a sympathetic and intriguing character. I've always preferred the monsters in the Graeco-Roman myths, rather than the asshole heroes and godawful gods. 😈 On that note, I think it was Ovid who wrote the most famous version of Medusa's story, the one Elijah reviewed.

If you’re a fan of Greek mythology, might I recommend the webcomic, Lore Olympus and the musical, Hadestown? You should have tons of fun with that👍🏻

I really love that they made Zeus such a petty loser. It's really accurate for that lmao. Also, supposedly the staff wanted to make Zeus a swan in reference to some of the Greek stories, but higher ups refused for... lets say obvious reasons. This episode was fun, and I like the setting. I'm more of a Norse mythology person myself, but Greek is still really cool and interesting, and it's iconic for a reason.

Now I really want Elijah to react to Epic the Musical

Liam Gradwell

Moral of this episode, and most of Greek mythology, is that Zeus is literally a huge, petty man child who cares only about winning one game. 🤣

If you like Greek mythology - and correcting how the women in it get treated - you might like the SF book "Pyramid Scheme," by Eric Flint and Dave Freer.

Hubert Duck, Dewford Dingus Duck, and Llewellyn Duck.

Webby honestly doesn't have a point because that note is so vague it could mean so many things.

Steven K

"Frozen Grapes are the perfect summer snack!" Your goddam right Elijah!

Brett B.

For those who don't know, Heracles is the Greek name, and Hercules is the Roman name.

Oh, dude; Monster, Scylla, Ruthlessness, and Thunder bringer are SO good! And Fight little wolf is good too! I recommend watching animatics. GOD Games is amazingly fitting for this episode

Despite being a duck, this is the most true to mythology portrayal of Zeus Disney's ever made. The Greek gods are assholes, and Zeus is the worst of the lot. They probably went with Selene as their moon goddess of choice instead of the more familiar Artemis because Selene is one of the least murder-happy Greek gods. As far as I can tell, there's only one story that has her smiting a lesser being for some minor slight, and even that seems to have been largely unintentional, while Artemis has a whole section of her Wikipedia page titled "Divine Retribution."

Also, it puts a lot of attention on his often overlooked function as the main god of hospitality.

People really like reading a subtext into just how into Donald Storkules is.

And the lion-headed scorpion is a manticore.

The version of Medusa’s mythology you said was a later version by the Roman poet Ovid, who wrote it to be more tragic. See, he always wrote the gods as being more malicious than capricious like earlier myths by the Greeks did. He was exiled by emperor Augustus, so he had major beef with any and all authority figures, and that affected how he viewed gods as well. So the original versions of Medusa’s story do not having her being taken against her will by Poseidon, that was Ovid’s invention. The original versions were still tragic in a way, but they were completely different. Her being an innocent human priestess is also Ovid’s reinterpretation as well. In the originals, she and her sisters Stheno and Euryale were demigods who either always looked monstrous, or could shift between looking beautiful and looking like monsters. And by the way, I’m not saying the gods weren’t pretty awful a lot of the time even in the earlier Greek versions of mythology. But most of their worst deeds were portrayed as karmic to some degree, even though it’s understandable to think that some of it is disproportionate retribution(like Artemis punishing anyone who just stumbles into seeing her bathe even if it was a complete accident, or most of what Poseidon puts Odysseus through), or them being uncaring of humanity. But a lot of the truly malevolent acts came from later interpretations from the Roman’s, especially Ovid. Zeus still sucked in every version of Greek mythology though, his treatment of gods and humans, especially in “that way” is just always horrible. The Ancient Greeks didn’t interpret his behavior as being as bad as later cultures would, and I admit I’m looking at it from a modern lense. But it’s good that modern society is able to see Zeus’ treatment of the people and gods that he wanted as being barbaric.

Marisa Maribel

That’s not how I saw a lot of fans react, a lot of fans were pretty patient. The pacing wasn’t really that bad, honestly. I’m not saying there wasn’t any fans who were frustrated, but this generalization of how all fans reacted wasn’t completely true, different fans reacted in different ways.

Fun facts about this episode: 1. Louie’s full name is a Welsh boy name, popular because of King Llywelyn the Great of Wales (born 1173). 2. A more well-known tidbit about this episode is that Ithaquack (which was in OG Ducktales) is named after Ithaca, which is real and in myth is the home of Odysseus. 3. If you’ve seen the new Mickey Mouse shorts, Storkules and Mickey have the same VA. 4. Final fact, (warning: SA) is that Zeus wasn’t supposed to be a stork originally in this episode, he was supposed to be swan to reference the myth where he takes the form of a swan and had his way with Leda, a Spartan queen. But because this is a family show and it was disturbing and gross, the idea was scrapped and he was changed to a Stork.

Joey Quixote

Is Storkules into Donald? I mean, back then, in those cultures, it wasn't that uncommon. It isn't now, either. We just have a bunch of screaming idiots claiming that sort of thing is the end of the world. But Storkules and Donald Duck is a fairly popular headcanon. Speaking of shipping, it may have been this episode specifically that had a lot of the fandom shipping Dewey with Webby. I have different, but also commonly shared, thoughts on the two of them. It's gonna be a while until you hit that episode though.
