Murder 1 Re-Released! (Patreon)

Ever wondered what happened to "Murder 1?" Well, now IT HAS RETURNED FROM THE YEAR 2018 (mostly intact)!

I finally recovered the old unity project for Murder 4, updated it to Unity 2019, and fixed all the broken lighting and prefabs.

I often hear that people got into VRChat when Murder 2 was really popular. Back then, I made Murder 2 as a sort of "upgraded" version of Murder (the original). Then I uploaded Murder 2 over the same world ID as murder 1. You can still see this in one of VRChat's old tweets where the world link still points to Murder 2. I didn't figure anyone would miss the old map. After all, it is quite small, and the "game logic" behind the scenes of Murder 2 worked a lot more consistently. I'm not really sure why I called it Murder "2".

Nowadays, major world overhauls are not uncommon! And often, the authors will leave the old versions up for those who are curious. Where possible, I will try to do the same thing in the future, and keep major milestones/old versions of worlds uploaded... at least as private worlds for patrons, or something.

I wish I still had the screenshots of... I think 400 ish people online in Murder 1 when it came out? It was a big surprise! I also remember that at the time, I was working on worlds like the Fortune Teller, Enigma Escape, and Winter Ball (which you can find in the portal hallway in this world). I was also working on an egyptian-themed horror escape room thing.

So for all of you who were curious about Murder 1, I hope you enjoy this weird glimpse into the past. Mostly. I had to change some things.

For those of you who have been around since the the true original, you might notice some things are different in this "remaster":

-There used to be an ~10 minute timer. I removed this since we have a master-only abort button now

-The unlocked gun used to always spawn in the Hall. I changed it to how Murder 2+ work, where it spawns at your feet

-When receiving a role at the start of the game, it used to spawn you in a small room momentarily. Now it appears on your HUD

-There used to be a mirror in the lobby, I replaced it with the patreon credits in this remastered version

-The detective's revolver and the unlocked revolver have patreon flair. Yes, you could dual-wield revolvers in Murder 1

-The murderer can now use the unlocked revolver. I forget if this was in the original Murder 1 or not

-Added a small cube on each door indicating where exactly you need to click to lock it, like in Murder 4

-Doors didn't have any animation before, now they actually swing open and closed, and shake when shoved, like in Murder 4

However, just like the all versions of Murder 1:

-Team circles are always on

-There is only one unlocked gun

-You can only spectate the entire map using the overhead view

Technically, there is an EVEN OLDER version of Murder 1. You may remember it if you played Murder on release, or saw some of the very first youtube videos of people playing. That VERY FIRST iteration had a much smaller lobby, no secret passageway, and any spectator could abort the game at any time (yikes). That version, however, is long gone due to... I'm not sure, I just can't find the files. I probably overwrote them or deleted them years ago.  If I recall, that version was only up for a few days anyway, before I expanded the lobby.

You can feel free to leave feedback of course, since I am curious what you think of the original Murder... but mostly when it comes to making the remaster work properly. I probably won't be making major changes to the map, however.

If I recall correctly, the biggest complaints back were the team circles mechanic (which was necessary to make it work, but people would abuse it a lot) and voice chat going through walls (the map is quite small x.x).

But look how far we have come now! Udon has made so many more mechanics possible for Murder 4, 5 and beyond...
