Woman: Swift Creek Photos
Lizard: Root64 Stock

The “Cold Wind” days had been fewer the past weeks.  In fact, there had been none.  Chloe was hopeful that the strange transformations were finally over.  As she was puttering happily about the house, she remembered that Cecil, the friends lizard, needed fed.  Her owners were on vacation and wouldn’t return for several days.

Digging the mealworms out of their habitat, she used the long tweezers to pick them up, one by one, and drop them into the habitat.  Cecil quickly and happily gobbled them up.  Chloe watched her to make sure none got away.  Noticing one that was in a corner, she unthinkingly used the hand and arm to move it from the corner back towards the waiting lizard.  It was then she felt the cold wind start.

“Not again,” she grumbled.

When her senses cleared, everything looked strange.  The outside world seemed distorted as if it were being seen through water or glass.  She was resting on her belly on a log.  Looking about she quickly figured out what had happened.  The wind had merged her and Cecil.  She was now mostly lizard with a lizard’s arms and claws instead of her own hands and arms.  Scale covered to he breasts, she knew she’d be spending the rest of the day as a lizard.

A terrarium is not the most exciting places to spend a day as Chloe quickly found out.  There was nothing to do except poke about a bit in the sand, crawl on the various logs and stones, but mostly lie on the warm sand and snooze.  That’s where her husband found her when he returned home in the evening.  As the sun set, she, in her half lizard form, began to grow.  He removed her from the enclosure and set her upon the sofa.  As expected, she soon finished a transformation back into a woman.  The lizard, seemingly in a torpor, lay on her lap.  Her husband, quickly scooping the creature up, returned it to its habitat.

“We managed to translate another of the symbol sequences.”

To that, Chloe had no response.
