The strange curse continued unabated. Chloe awoke one morning with the strangest of urges. She had to go to the aquarium. Their aquarium was huge. Sea water aquariums were better that way. It had the latest of automated systems to keep it clean and healthy. She and Stefan loved diving and spent their vacations at the seaside. Sometimes, they’d bring home some creature they’d captured. As she approached the aquarium, the little octopus they’d taken from the reef the previous summer slithered across the bottom and up onto the side of the glass. She reached out to touch the glass and felt the strange cold wind again. She knew what was coming. Stefan, awakened when she left the bed, had followed behind her.
“What’s up?” he asked somewhat groggily.
“I - uh - it’s happening again,” was all Chloe managed before the change hit.
She felt her legs shorten and her hips broaden. Soon, eight long tentacles began growing from beneath her newly formed mantle. She knew shat she had to do and quickly. The little octopus had jetted away from the glass the moment the change began and Chloe, dragged herself up the side of the aquarium.
“Don’t just stand there!” she demanded. “I have to get into the aquarium and fast!”
Stefan, in shock at seeing his wife’s transformation, stood for several seconds before reacting. He pushed her ever shrinking body towards the top of the tank and opened the upper louvres. By the time she was at the top of the tank, she was barely half her normal size. Pulling herself into the water with her hands and tentacles, she settled at the bottom of the tank and waited for the change to finish. She felt the pulsing of her mantle behind her and knew she had gills to breathe the water.
“Are you … are you … okay?” a worried Stefan managed.
Chloe merely signalled okay as a diver would. Stefan, for his part, continued to watch. The change continued to change Chloe until it covered her upper body like some kind of strange dress. She felt distinctly weird and closed her eyes momentarily to calm herself. That’s when she made the unwelcome discovery that the strange decorations across her breasts were more than just coloured flesh. Even with her eyes closed, she could see. Opening her eyes she looked at her reflection on the glass of the aquarium. Her breasts had been replaced by the eye bulges of the octopus she’d been merged with by the curse. Off to one side of each bulge, she noticed a pair of eyes, octopus eyes. She shuddered and then crawled across the bottom of the aquarium resignedly. Ah well. It was only for a single day.
