Next big step is figuring out what the Royal Alchemist and all the apprentices look like.  I'm working with a Unity package called UMA (Unity Multipurpose Avatar) to generate the various NPCs.  It's a new one for me so I'm going to have to teach myself how to make it do what I need it to do.

Royal Alchemist:  Currently I'm leaning to the idea of a short almost gnome-like person.  Maybe 1.4 m tall.  This  is slightly taller than Makayla herself (the player).  He'll have to be wearing some kind of robe (maybe) with appropriate symbols.  I'm tempted to put a hat rack by the main entrance.  His hat would be a traditional wizard's hat with appropriate symbols on it.

Apprentices: Since I'm going to have to create the various species for other levels, I thought I'd have a mix of different kinds here.  One I'm thinking about is an elf; maybe a winged elf, too.  Perhaps a naga (if I can work out the model).  I'd like to put in a harpy but I have no idea how she'd use the tools to manipulate the crystals.  A deer taur would be nice, too.  Maybe even a human ...
