October End of Month Announcements - AI art contest winners! (Patreon)

Hello everyone!


How time flies! Time for another set of announcements.

First, this is my admin week, AKA my "I didn't manage to write all the chapters I needed to and now need to catch up after murdering my backlog" week. 


Second, November's admin week is going to be the week of the 21st, because of Thanksgiving. 


Third, web comic is moving again. Just waiting on the contract!


Fourth, the AI art contest winners! I used a mix of my own judgement and your votes to select 12 winners. I was originally going to pick 10, but, well... I got carried away.

In first place, by Frazzle, is Misplaced Commando!

In second place, by Caustic, is Auri!

And congratulations to the 10-way tie for third place! Dragonkin with one winning submission,, Puddz with 6, and Dark Technomancer with 3!

Damn, Puddz really cleaned up.


A few consolation prizes have been sent to people who had high voting entries, but I disliked for one reason or another.

Ninja edit because I hit post then remembered what I wanted to say: With the Grandfathered Elaine Tier, I *can't* get people back into it. I've gotten a few messages from people who accidentally left for one reason or another, and I'd love to shove them back into the tier, but Patreon literally doesn't let me. I have no tool for it.

I have to be honest, the pictures are awesome! But that very first one? I REALLY don't like it... It's not bad exactly, but it looks like Elaine has a mustache, and it sadly ruins the picture...

What does AI stand for in this context? Artificial intelligence? It doesn't look like it and there are artists named... I'm confused. Someone please explain.

There are AI programs that you describe a scene to and it produces an image, there are other ways to draw with AI as well. These are submissions people have made using those AI.

You use AI program to generate art. You give a program some keywords then it create a new artpiece by doing math magic on a HUGE database of pictures.

Man, that's so weird. I assume that's the big one with dragon eyes on it? I really like that image the best of any of them. I think it captures the inhuman perfection as well as alien implacable death that it is to go against Elaine in game-on mode. Makes her look like a terrifying commando in serious mode.. the other ones are fine, but I feel like this captures the spirit of badass Elaine. :)

her with her game face on is fine. I do like the art and detail and all that. But the face is wrong and that uncanny valley just ruins it for me.

This is in regards to the main more lifelike image. Get rid of what appears to be bare skin. If your going for realistic armor…. The apparent bare skin throws the art off.

She could just have a hole in her armour. With her healing, it’d just rip a hole straight through and basically look like that.

I totally support and understand the need for admin weeks and honestly I’m surprised how little time off you seem to take, but this week is going to really suck the story is getting better than I think it’s ever been so I’m on the edge of my seat for the next chapters

For sure, I think you're quite right about the uncanny valley on this one. I envision this picture as being after her chimera change... where Elaine could have redesigned and been like, 'yep, everything looks good. Badass, Efficient. Just a few shifts here and there' Where everything is technically there, but maybe somewhat.. different. From looking at this picture, I believe the thing in that picture would turn its head 180 degrees to look at you like an owl. :D

Jup there was a change in Pricing. The Grandfather Tier means that you keep you benefits for the same Price and just new People have to pay more for that Tier. There is a post about that somewhere a few months back.

It seems to me the biggest issue there is the construction of the face where the nose and lips appear to be oriented differently from the brow and eye (try covering the top and bottom of the face and see it look better)
