I'm communicating early and often on this!

We're approaching the end of book 3. When it's over, I'm going to take a short break. Mentally, I keep telling myself it'll be a week, but I like writing and posting too much. In all likelihood it'll be much shorter than that, just a day or two. An interlude will be posted as well during the break, to help tide you all over.

Once book 3 is done, I'll be shifting to a slightly slower update schedule - 3x/week.

As Flora grows up and gets older, she requires more and more care. This eats into my writing schedule, and right now my schedule has almost no room for interruptions. Right now, I write 5x/week, edit 1x/week, and have 1x/week day "off". Unfortunately, when life kicks me, as it always does, the 1x/week day "off" is what bites the dust, then I'm going weeks on end without a break.

Which will lead to burnout eventually.

I'm doing great on writing. The *only* things that could stop Beneath the Dragoneye Moons from completing are:
1) Getting hit by a bus

2) Burning out

3) Getting flamed so hard that I quit

I can't control 1. 2 is trying to be managed here, and 3 almost happened, but didn't.

I still aim to write 5x/week, but now I have more time to be flexible if something doesn't work out.

This should increase my backlog, which will help when I need to pull off a complicated move this summer. I should have enough backlog to survive the entire move without any interruption to the posting schedule, although my ability to respond to comments will be limited.

Additionally, as my backlog increases after that, I'll be dropping more and more chapters on Patreon. My short-term goal is by September, Patreon is at least 10/20 chapters ahead of RR. If things go really well, I can pull Patreon even further ahead.

After lots of time and discussion on the $10+ tiers, I remain committed to all of the main BTDEM story being at the $5 tier. However, my reduced posting schedule will allow me to start writing side-stories now and then, which will be available for the $10+ tier, along with other little goodies that I can try to offer them. For example - they're getting sneak peeks at the Book 4 cover as the artist develops it.

I really do wish I could keep pumping out chapters at 5x/week, but I don't think it's sustainable for years on end.

Total words per week might stay roughly the same, as my chapter lengths keep creeping up. I recently wrote a 10k+ word chapter, for example.

Thank you all for your continued support! It means the world to me.

Cheers,

Selkie Myth

PS: To be REALLY CLEAR, the update schedule is still 5x/week FOR NOW.

Also, I'm game for hearing posting day suggestions. M/W/F? Sunday/T/T? T/T/S? SSW? A poll will come up for it eventually, just want to hear some ideas

Theoretically 1 st point is nearly solvable. It just requires living in inconvenient places.

Hey, you can slow down as much as you need one of my favorite RR authors updates once a week, it's better to have a sane author who posts good things.

would like to say that you were joint 3rd fiction I joined patreon on

By all means please do cut down on the release rate, even normal wage earners at least get 2 days a week free in the form of weekends. Plus I know at least I and I imagine most people would far rather get 1-2 chapters less per week if it means you can keep them coming year after year with the joy of telling the story intact.

The current update schedule is insane. Three a week is still a very aggressive schedule if the chapters are as long as they have been.

Look into techniques for training the baby to sleep. Once you pull that off (which takes a long while, their brains are still developing!) you'll be able to get more sleep too.

Have you though about a co-writer?
