Two UNN Doloto-class torpedo frigates are ambushed by a Betelgeusian carrier in a debris field while on patrol. The insectoid construct of flesh and metal scrambles the fighters that are hitching a ride on its carapace as it begins to tear into its victim's hull with its claws, rending steel, rupturing fuel lines, and exposing the decks to space. The frigates frantically launch swarms of defensive missiles, responding with railgun fire and glowing trails of tracer rounds from their CIWS cannons. A hatch on the hull of one of the frigates swings open, a thirty-foot torpedo rising on a plume of chemical propellant, its targeting sensors sighting the enemy.
