My family got one of those big terra cotta floors when we built an addition onto our townhouse in the early '90s. They look practical, but they're hard on your feet, surprisingly hard to clean with the grouting, and smash open if you put down a chair too hard. It's not a part of my childhood that I remember particularly fondly. Also, when they crack, they become perfect hiding places for a bucket brigade of ants liquidating your kitchen.

Is the wireline phone with cord that has been so stretched that its resting conformation is "out around the corner and back again" one of the kitsches?
