This week''s Good House of the Week is especially adorable. It's a meticulous 2006 recreation of a vernacular home design popular in the Midwest: the Parlor-by-Pass floorplan.  If the listing didn't tell me the house was new, I genuinely would not have known. While the interior is a little but too trendy for my taste (I've grown rather sick of contractor gray walls after 3 years of ubiquity), there's no doubt that this is a beautifully high-quality home with a small, but spacious footprint, urbane charm, and timeless design.

Looks like the house has been taken off the market, but you can google the address (145 Detroit Ave) and still see cached pages with photos :)

Through Google Maps you can see a series of exterior photos over the years. The previous owners had a sweet garden from wall to fence, a wonderful use of the space. Then comes a photos with a "For sale" sign, followed by photo showing that the subsequent owners tore that out in favor of a boring grass monoculture and a pitiful strip of garden hugging the wall. Sigh. Hopeful this set of owners will do better by the space.
