最近三場比賽與排位,羅素(George Russell)都以〇比三完敗給七屆冠軍隊友咸美頓(Lewis Hamilton)。是偶然嗎?還是他比較不適應被戲稱「黑牛」的新車?

摩納哥站,平治推出新車。羅素該站排第八,咸美頓第六;羅素比賽第五,咸第四。巴塞隆拿站,佐治 Q2 出局,「劉易斯」排第五起跑;前者比賽季軍,後者亞軍。今站滿地可,25 歲仔排第四,38 歲佬排第三;後生仔比賽先自炒、後因迫力問題退賽,世界冠軍得季軍,連續兩場開香檳。

摩納哥更新前,羅素排位五比一領先隊友,比賽則二比三。

上季,咸美頓排位贏 13 比 9。惟以整季看,羅素不但贏分站、其總分與排名都比咸美頓高。撇開不同 setup 的話,說羅素駕駛上屆的 W13 與季初 W14 比較自在不算過份。

然後三場前的摩納哥,平治「完善」戰車 aero 概念。新車「W14B」較大幅度參考 Red Bull RB19 的不同設計,包括 downwash 側箱概念,並修正自己的「〇碼側箱」。滿地可是「黑牛」出世後的第三場。

現階段,本欄不能斷說新車不適合羅素。消息人士認為,車隊不會專門為一位車手特製戰車。然而,羅素的相對弱勢已維持三場,值得讀者留意。

羅素於滿地可 T8-9 間的炒車,某程度上就是急於追回正漸漸拋離的 Fernando Alonso 及咸美頓而犯錯。近場,羅素於被播出的 radio 中,亦聽來較多、較激烈地與比賽工程師 Marcus 討論如何「隔空」超越隊友。這是好事,因為少年不狂枉少年,正如數年前的韋斯塔本(Max Verstappen)。

同時,這是否意味羅素駕駛「新黑牛」未如咸美頓般即時得心應手?正在努力四出尋找那最後的〇點三秒,以擊敗隊友?正如過去三場努力追「韋少」,為爭奪世界冠軍而拼命,可惜失之交臂、連續三場不入 Q3 的 Checo(Sergio Perez)一樣呢?

會唔會因為羅素同咸美頓身高差距比較大有關?正常F1車應該可以因應車手身高就到張櫈位置,但佢兩個差距並唔止一至兩吋,之前咸美頓有投訴話坐得太前,而家會唔會掉返轉?

但長遠計研發重點較偏Sir Ham會比較現實(相信都是續約重點),因為Sir不續約而隨便找個替代,羅素肯定未有能力完全撐起車隊,對2026研發方向都會有影響,情況就如老麥前幾年一樣,平治不能承受方向再錯

Probably just some 「阿媽係女人」 kind of thoughts here… just my guess, I can’t see why a team would spend so much investment on just 1 of their drivers, but not both, unless the team does not care about the championship at all, and simply want to 公報私仇 😅 (impossible, isn’t it?) The DNA / characteristics of each car, even the same team but with such radical design change, could be so unique that even multiple WDC cannot manage perfectly - like Hamilton last year and Vettel in his last Ferrari year; or like when MSC returned in Merc, he could not do as good overall, comparing to Rosberg too. I bet that Hamilton can do better to explain how to improve the car, obviously in his perspective and with his own driving. So maybe the original new generation car does not suit him perfectly, but he has spent a year to test and feedback, no doubt this year car, particularly the very new non-zero-pod car would fit him really good. Russell has pure talent, and can drive any bad car. But comparing to the 7 times WDC who now has a perfectly fitted car, Russell could only take more risk and tries more tricks, this is not good to him as he could be constantly distracted (like what Dan said, trying to find that 0.3 seconds). So I think that only when Russell can find his way to adapt and tune the new car, and try off track to give better feedback to influence the car development, he would be hard to find a way to win, until Hamilton will retire…

Besides, I also think that the race engineer is always as important as the driver (i think that F1 broadcast should talk about them more). This year Russell has a new race engineer Marcus Dudley (replacing Riccardo Musconi). Dudley is obviously good and experience (and even was working with Hamilton before), but whether he matches well with Russell and can help him in the car development and tuning, I would wonder.

I believe that Russell is definitely not a save-oil-lamp (skill, determination, aggressiveness…), but how many years and how far can he improve his influence in the team before Hamilton will retire… I guess if Merc will be back onto the competition with RB, the car will be even more Hamilton like (even no such intention at all) and Russell won’t has his chance until 2026.

不能再錯係真嘅👍 其實有無偏重,我會話應該係偏重「快嗰個」😄,所以轉 W14B 本身對 Sir Lewis 來說,就係一個契機😄。

actually - insider sources said george's comments are more rational/logical/clear (i forgot exact words), while sir's comments are more personal feelings and less scientific (not exact words again). But yeah, this is a test that George must pass if he wants to be a world champ one day.

Hahaha… while Russell could do PowerPoint to sell himself, he probably is more rational and scientific 😆… Agree that if he passes this test and stay in Merc, he probably has a chance to get at least 1 WDC.
