If you watch my YouTube videos, you'll know that I have a love-hate relationship with flying races in D&D.

I do think that the fantasy of playing a flying character is a really fun one, but I also know that flight is not balanced at level 1.

If is after all a 3rd level spell that requires concentration. So permanently getting it for free, without risking the loss of concentration is a bit much.

Most low level monsters are not adapted to flying PCs, and the reason for it is because if you give a monster ranged attacks and a flying speed, it increases their CR, thus not making them low level monsters any longer.

So this is my take on flight for races, broken wings that cannot hold you aloft for very long. Makes for a cool story too, and a nice character motivation.
