How does everyone feel about their ruination ability? Some of my fellow players/DMs at my home table are in an uproar about it being able to dispell high level magic and think it should be taken out, where as myself and the rest of the group think it's cool and balanced. They do play a lot of spellcasters though, and argue that their spellslots are limited even though there are multiple ways to regain them. Any advice?

I'll say this, It dispels very specific magic, mages have so many spells options where barbarians would be powerless, such as banishment. It's just one specific type of spell that won't work on them, in a world where usually barbs can't do much against magic. All DMs I know allow the subclass, but then again they are friends of mine, so it might be a biased sample.

Could ruination just bypass the shield spell? Shield says it creates a magical barrier, or is it just up to interpretation?
