For those unaware, the title's a meme, I'm not going to delete this.

Thanks to some early investigative work by Akaece, and a lot of help from Sentharn bashing our combined heads against the problem, we managed to find a way of doing the normal transfer trick his addon does, but natively in blender, using geometry nodes! While it's considerably more difficult to set up and get going, it's a lot more stable, at least in my testing so far. I have no doubt Sen could get his addon working perfectly given enough time to fiddle around with it, but unfortunately he's got a life and job and stuff outside of developing blender addons specifically for my personal use (the nerve), so we can't really expect that. :P

But, he helped a lot in figuring out how to get the concept working with the tools blender has built in. For most of you none of that really matters though, she's going to look basically the same as ever here. The main thing is, I did this quick test render of Serena to show off the results of a technical thing and thought it was kind of cute, so what the heck, figured I'd toss it up here. I added some stockings and a choker to her outfit since we last saw her, I think it works!

Either you didn't read the description, or you're out-memeing me, in which case kudos. x3 Hah, but thanks! :D

Is cute! Streamlining your process is so satisfying when it works out :3

Scotia

I loved her before, but I looooove her now!

She really is just the cutest.

Eddie SanHusky

Since the title is a meme, and she's wearing a choker...XD

Pojodan

She's adorable. Cheetah needs to nibble on her.

I'm just starting to learn blender and I'm a developer so I hope to get into programming addons at some point (but time/job/life/etc.. you know). Hair/fur seems to be a major issue to get right, but obviously some of you guys do an amazing job with it. But the tools can always be better and Blender is always getting better too. Great work! I look forward to seeing more of her :)

How precious!

Blender is currently in the middle of creating a new hair system and it's really in it's infancy at the moment so it's pretty tough to use. I'm hopeful it'll get much better over time! But it's just enough to give me the look I want right now, so it'll do, hah. Thanks! :3

Caliso the Dragon

please more of Serena. the Dancing video was so adorable

Nice, thanks for the info! Yeah, hair and fur seems complicated and if it's been up to third party addons to do it properly, might be nice if they brought it more in-house as a standard feature in Blender. Especially since it's something lots of people would want and the processing power of desktop computers is getting powerful enough to deal with it better.

Sentharn

Fur/hair has been a thorn in blender users' sides for years and development in this area is usually deferred. It's in a frustrating area where bugs filed against the old system are closed as "system is EOL" while the new system doesn't...work. It's missing most of the functionality of the old system. https://developer.blender.org/T91887 The extension I wrote was a stopgap to shoehorn functionality into the old system because the new system is a pain in the ass and mostly undocumented and is still missing features like interpolated children and clumping. Hopefully the addon won't be necessary in the future because I don't want to support it. :P It's frustrating to see the community having to make addons for things that really need to be in blender core... https://blenderartists.org/t/hair-medusa-nodes/1336677 And before anyone gets on my case about free software expectations: I donate monthly to Blender development! I want to see it succeed! But it's disheartening seeing strand/hair/fur development get pushed back over and over for several years now.

Iora

Yeah.. I've done plenty of stopgap development myself. It's actually really nice when a company finally makes what you did obsolete because they got off their ass and did it themselves. But sometimes that takes forever.. or just never happens. *shrug* We do what we must because we can, right? :) Thank you for your contributions. I haven't had a chance to check them out yet but I look forward to it. And if it's filling a much needed gap in functionality, then even more thanks.
