In my recent question (gryphon/dragon) most people seemed to have a preference for dragon, and I was already leaning a bit in that direction myself... well, due to some poor work management I have a little bit of time with nothing to do, so I started making it!

As usual, with no colour and texture things look kinda weird. It's always super hard to tell how the face in particular is going to look, it just always looks creepy without colour and texture. I spent the better part of a whole day fighting with it trying to get it looking alright, and I thiiiink it's getting there, but I honestly won't know until closer to when it's done.

Feral fans, I have very little experience with feral stuff so if you see anything way off lemme know. I'm pretty happy with the back half, but I'm not super confident in the front legs and how they attach to the body. I dunno.

Anyway, I've attached a turntable and some still pictures so y'all can check out what I've been up to. He's far from done, he'll look a lot better with something running down his back
(probably fluff of some sort), and I'm maaaaaybe thinking about trying to add in some simple wings. So very early, but yeah! I'd love to know whatcha think.

(Also as a quick reminder to those at the relevant level, monthly painting suggestions are open for a bit longer! https://www.patreon.com/posts/monthly-painting-31468830 )

Edit: added some updated stuff. Playing around with wings...

Looking good so far! Definitely love the detail you put into the feet, they look great and are some of the more anatomically detailed pieces to do with all the tendons and motion. I agree that the back half looks great, and can see where you'd be feeling a bit strange with the front half, especially the shoulder attachment. I'd say to look at how equine anatomy does front shoulder/chest muscles and joints, as I've seen that translated into feral dragon anatomy fairly well. It blends the shoulder more into chest muscle and that makes it feel less 'attached on the side of the torso' and more 'stems from the torso', if that makes any sense. Basically more muscularly involved in the torso anatomy. I'm excited to see this guy/gal with textures! Even just with plan model colors like this it already looks good.

Looking at horses for reference was a clever idea. I was using pictures of dragons as reference but the anatomy is so weird and varied it was hard to figure much out. Real animals are a bit more consistent, who knew? x3 I was a bit limited by having all that existing geometry to work around, and the plate scales down the tummy made things additionally tricky, but I tried to bring the chest into the arms a bit more. Not perfect, but definitely better I think! I updated this post with another few pictures and turntable animation if you're curious. Also started playing with wings, since they're so conspicuous it seems silly not to mention the change. I have no idea how I'm going to do the wing membrane yet- if I make it part of the body it does weird things, if I make it a separate piece it does weird things... s'gonna take some research I think. But there's a placeholder for now at least!
