Repetition is what makes Gamer Discourse go round, and I should know - this very show has been accused of repetition since inception. It's not like the accusation is untrue. 

  However, is Gamer Discourse ever original? Aren't we just rehashing about five arguments over and over? I know one thing - the arguments have more cycles than Returnal.

As a fan of words having some meaning, the fucking circle-jerk over reviews needing to be “objective” is infuriating.

This might be an old and obvious observation, but now that I am a parent I wonder how much of all of this is driven by children, by which I mean young people who literally have underdeveloped brains. Am I off on this and is it actually adults who are still acting like children or actual children?

Children grow up to be adults. Incels grow up to be sexual abusers. Far right kids who hate Blacks and Jews grow up to vote for Trump and Heil Republicans. Kids who demand that every game is great or perfect or have brand loyalty but no sympathy gets you adults who shout at you for poiting out systematic sexual abuse of employees. Kids then learn that it is acceptable. Nazis find homes on 4chan. Incels find homes somewhere. It's a self fulfilling prophecy and a sign of the times. I think it is a product of the culture wars that progressives and soundly lost. Until that changes, I don't see a lot of hope for this cycle to stop. I am 100% sure that Steph would love to never make another video about the same thing over and over.

On the subject of loot boxes, I have now met actual human people that staunchly defend this. Not shareholders of the company or anything, no, players who posit that this is actually a 'freedom' that would be taken from them if governments were to step in due to the fact that the industry will just not self-regulate. Is this Stockholm syndrome? Being contrarian? It honestly baffles me. Either way please keep beating the drum of sanity. Maybe you should have chosen the name 'James Stephanie Cassandra Sterling' for yourself. Not sure. Too on the nose?

Funnily enough, I feel the same way about trans stuff. I worry that I keep repeating myself, because what I'm responding to never changes, year after year, and there's this weird idea that I should get new arguments when my original arguments were perfectly sufficient, but simply ignored.

Jim-Stéphanie please please PLEASE talk about CO-OPERATIVE gaming. Competition is a cancer in the human soul, why is it the focus of so much of gaming ? Why does EVERY SINGLE MENTION OF CO-OP in steam forum have multiple comments extremely negative about the very IDEA of co-operative gaming as somehow something that would degrade even the single player experience. Anyone who has experienced the joy of Dying Light, Black Op3 or Deep Rock Galactic KNOWS, co-operative gaming with your friends (and even strangers) is the future of gaming. Who else is going to champion actual sanity in this godforsaken industry? WE NEED YOU ON REPEAT FOREVER. That's actually not a bad idea. Make a generic video that you can release again and again every single time one of these cyclical events occurs.

Well, other industries talk about producing “evergreen content” which is good for that “SEO link juice” or whatever... but then I thought about it and I realised that pretty much all of the Jimquisition is evergreen content because the game industry never changes.

Isn't that basically any video Steph has made on the subject? The 'Sekiro should have an easy mode' one, the objectivity one about FF... XV? I forget which FF was the super lazy one that she did a 'this is a game that you play with a controller' Jimquisition "review" for. I mean I've been watching for years and playing games for longer. She's right that the core arguments literally never change, they just have new avatars attached to them. I'm sure people in 5 years would complain that the titles named-dropped were Super Mario Odyssey or Dark Souls Remaster, etc, etc. But the argument still stands. Hell, I remember when Steph defended 'Anita Sarkiseesian doesn't deserve rape/death threats' years back around Gamergate, that's another discourse that comes up again and again.
