Microsoft is pushing for dominance in PC gaming with its Universal Windows Platform, and it's not being entirely nice about it.

After outcry from Tim Sweeney and Durante, your old pal Jim Sterling joins the voices decrying Windows' walled garden as a really, really bad idea.

Shut up, Chip!

Why can't we have nice things? Oh wait, because every company is trying to screw us over! Well, just the really dicky ones that see consumers as wallets with legs. But you get my point.

MS Asked Chip for it's store strategy right?

So what I don't understand is are they eventually trying to shoehorn in some kind of legitimate platform or frontend just for games? In my limited dealings with games on the Windows Store (read: Gigantic... which I actually.... like?) There is no unification going on. There is no fucking sense to it. You download the game you want... unintuitively. It puts no shortcut on your desktop but rather adds it to your app list... unintuitively. You can then (sure enough... unintuitively) add a shortcut to your taskbar so that you at least have the game there at the ready... but when it comes time to patch the game.. Do you get a prompt? A warning? A reason to check for updates? No. Nooo you play the game only to realize that nothing is working quite right and then, unintuitively, you check the Windows Store page for that game to see if there is indeed an update available. It's bad enough that they are going through the motions with this shit to begin with.... but is it sooooooo fucking outrageous to want a solid venue from which to enjoy this plate of shit?
