We've talked a lot about crunch and other forms of industry abuse this year. We've raked multiple companies over the coals for their unethical and often exploitative behavior. We will keep doing that.

What do we do, however, when this nasty behavior is perpetuated by one of the "good" ones? What if, say, CD Projekt RED was accused of overworking staff in hostile conditions?

Well, according to those excited for Cyberpunk 2077, we should just look the other way.

I would really like to see an analysis of how the industry could unionize, as imo that seems to be the only way for things to change.

Trevor Bond

People expected a game as hyped as Cyberpunk to NOT be built on suffering? Wow..... people really have no pattern recognition skills.

RedBedroomRecords

problem is many actual employees are opposed to unionizing for a variety of reasons, so I don't realistically see it ever happening in this lifetime.

Ah, here comes the apologist. Only a matter of time before you turned up.

RedBedroomRecords

well it's not like its impossible, Spider-Man on PS4 was apparently done without any crunching.

Ronnie

Its called delays, they can be costly, but its not like cyberpunk isnt going to earn millions upon millions even if they delayed it 😕

Crissa Kentavr

Ehh, delays cost money and plugs have been pulled before. The execs rarely want to see their paychecks go down.

Twit In A Hat

That mask is looking good, Jim! I, uh, I mean Mister Sterdust, Sir.

Twit In A Hat

I guess I won't be buying this game for quite a while... Bastards...

Benedict Holland

How was this allowed to happen? They pushed deadlines twice by 11 months. If they needed 14, demand 14 and say it is coming out q1 2021.

Jim seems like he's maybe getting a bit cabin fever-y. Maybe.

Dr. Judge, Private Eye

Give the people bread and entertainment (CD Projekt, always a very "consumer-friendly" brand) and they'll look the other way on so many things. But not Jim. Never Jim.
