Fallout 76 is a cautionary tale for an industry that exercises no caution whatsoever. A wake-up call for an industry that remains asleep at the wheel.

Bethesda's broken, unfinished, poorly received foray into the "live service" arena has been a neverending carnival of humiliating nonsense. A fine example of what happens when you play to none of your strengths for the sake of ill-gotten gains.

With a big iron on our hips, let's take a look at the embarrassing, baffling, and often funny mess that is Fallout 76!

Lets not forget that you could only get the game direct from Bethesda's own store which, at the time at least, had no refund policy cause they fucking knew people were going to demand refunds on every other storefront. What pricks.

Never underestimate the benefits of being a white dude. You can literally be the worst possible candidate for any given theoretical position, but so long as you have the Caucasian bonus feat you're basically set for life!

Hats-off to ya' Jim. This was a masterpiece of snarky erudition and an all too startling reminder of the sheer entertainment value that can surround an ineptly managed and implemented "live service". There's a teeny-tiny part of me that feels a modicum of sympathy for the current social media clusterf*ck surrounding Todd. Not for his self-inflicted abyssal gulf between the things he says and the things that he does, but for the depressing reality that he isn't even the worst example of someone from the upper echelons of the video games "power list". He's not actually a total scumbag the way someone like Randy Pitchford is, or Sam & Dan Houser are, or anything like that loathsome Jeronimo Barerra. You've presented us with such an industry rogues gallery over the years that against all the odds Todd appears saintly by comparison. He reminds me of Peter Molyneux in that regard. He's probably a nice enough guy, he just also happens to be a serial b*llocks-merchant. I do wonder what I'll do with myself after this whole saga finishes. I could always live in hope of Bethesda committing another howler with their IP, another instance of breathtaking incompetence that arguably made Fallout 76 worthwhile. What will my reason for getting out of bed on a morning anymore? Also, that bit about an irate fan sending Todd bobby pins and asking him to weigh them... x3

'Asleep at the wheel' seems VERY accurate. But it's okay, we can all just crack jokes at ourselves and ignore the dumpster fire behind us right???

I feel a small need to play the relativist, here. First off, I have to cop to the privileged position of not having shelled out money to play Fallout 76, granting me the lofty vantage of going, "Yeah, sure does look like crap down there, must suck." Second, everything that has been mentioned regarding Fallout 76 does, indeed, suck, and Bethesda has been slow and lacking (and in the case of the leaked information from collector's edition holders, downright malignant) regarding fixing all their mis-steps, whether they were the result of incompetence or malfeasance. (And the piece didn't even touch on the Nuka Cola Rum kerfuffle!) Buuut... I can't entirely get on their back about E3, in as much as it sounds like they actually paid some attention to what people were complaining about, and are putting some effort into making amends. And apparently doing so without seeking to get paid for it. And, yeah, they may screw it up yet again, and, yeah, they should have had those features in place in the first place. But I can't attack people for trying to get it right, even if it's late and half-assed. I can't smack people when they're moving in the right direction, for fear that they'll stop trying at all. I mean, we've seen so many instances where companies like EA, Activision, Ubisoft and WB have reacted to fan outrage by more or less going, "Well, we already have your money. And, by the way, we're shutting off the multiplayer servers in a month, since you people can't be satisfied, anyway." Bethesda might be offering tepid tap water in that regard, and perhaps they shouldn't be *cheered* for it, but we get so much boiled piss that it's not entirely surprising when people find tepid tap water a relief.

I will have to disagree as someone who played and completed the game. The Game doesn't need NPC's, that is not a fix, at all. The game needs Weapon Degradation removed, not adjusted, removed entirely. Here is the best example of why this game is Literally a Cynical Cash Grab, and it is reiterating what Jim said but with an example. There is a gun called the Gatling Plasma, it is a Plasma version of the Gatling Gun, It cannot be fired till it is empty and then reloaded, not coz of a glitch, but coz the gun will break before the clip is empty, let me sat that again, the gun will break, even if fixed up to 200% Weapon HP, BEFORE it empties a Single Magazine. Now if this was fixed recently then I will say okay, but from recent vids I've seen, it is not fixed. This is not an oversight either, as they are now offering Repair Kits for Real World $$$, but still have weapons that literally break before they empty a single magazine from 200% Weapon HP, NPC's won't fix that, it will just try to lure people back to buy these weapons so they can entice them to pay $$$ to fix these weapons that are literally designed to siphon $$$ from gamers pockets.
