While the world of so-called "AAA" games wants to believe survival horror is dead, there's plenty of evidence to the contrary. Hell, the genre is kept very much alive, at least in spirit, by the recently released Bloodborne. Not only is it a scary bloody game, it catches so many classic horror game tropes, it definitely deserves to be counted as a genuine survival horror game. Plus, y'know, it's got spiders in it.

So, by extension, does this make Sunless Sea a top-down Survival Horror game? It's got many of the same elements you mention as making up the survival horror experience of Bloodborne: A dark and dangerous atmosphere, tense resource management, a sense that any bad engagement, any moment of overreach might kill you and cost you a lot of effort, and finally, it never lets you get on top. Even when sat in the biggest ship in the game, the threats in the game that don't attack your hull may still very well kill you and your crew. Thoughts?

Glad you're still alive Jim. The world still needs you too much to croak just yet.
