I've still got lots to go to finish off Three Square Meals, but I've been pondering what I should work on next when this is finally done.

I have "Setting Sail on a Black Sea" to continue, and I've been thinking up more ideas for that as well, but I also had a few ideas about a fantasy series.

Now I have my wonderful Patrons to consider, I'm wary of switching genres if you guys loathe fantasy based stories. Unfortunately I'm not blessed with telepathy, so I thought I'd simply ask for your feedback!

When TSM finishes, should I:

1) Do another story in the same universe

2) Write a high fantasy epic instead

I'm not too much of a fantasy fan but I'd love to read some more world building in the 3SM universe. Maybe some explanations as to how the psychic powers work, the history of the various species John found and the astral monsters (If you're not planning to talk about that in 3SM already).

A fantasy epic would be great!

Muledrvr

Either way works for me :l

I would love a fantasy epic maybe something similar to David eddings the malloreon

Anonymous

Would love more work in the same space

Brent

Same universe.

as much as i love your TSM universe i would like to see and epic fantasy while exploring other sex fetishes like more futa, light and maybe heavy bondage, softcore or hardcore vorarephilia, giantesses and other weird sexual deviances

You can take a break for a while from the TSM universe and work on Black Sea. Them maybe come back and work on a prequel or sequel. You still have the Battle of Galion Prime which would be worth 200k easy. You mentioned something about time travel in Black Sea. It would be interesting to tie them in during a prequel if possible. The Truckstop series would need some fleshing out. To be honest it didn't get me too excited, kind of a Mad Max story.

Same Universe

Fantasy epic gets my vote. Especially a big fan of High fantasy. Like Dungeons and Dragons, or the Warhammer RPG systems.

Setting sail on a black sea was off to a great start in chapter one, I'm looking forward to that one. However you have an obvious prequel with John's mother's story. I would suggest keeping the tale of how her ship reawakens the progenitor (John's father) separate from TSM and cover that story, including her initial escape with John and ultimate reaquisition by the progenitor as a separate tale. Perhaps end TSM with John unifying the Maliri but finding clues his mother is still alive. Jump back in time to his mother's story in book two and have some sort of reunification and resolution to the progenitor conflict in book three.

My vote goes towards starting a new fantasy series. Then, if/when you want a break, you can come back to TSM and do a short story or check in on the girls/kids. Maybe a prequel with John's mother depending on how that works out. But, whatever you do, please really finish out TSM before starting up a new project. Don't leave us on the ultimate cliffhanger. Also, whether you stick to the soft sci-fi or change over to fantasy, I'd definitely like to keep the cum inflation theme.

My vote is for fantasy, curious to see what races you would come up with. Might try to have the hero use something else besides a sword though.

Anonymous

I'd say do what you have the most motivation and ideas for, and that way we'll both be happy.

Tefler

Interesting feedback, thanks for taking your time to comment! I'll keep an eye on this post and try and get a feel for what the majority of you prefer.

DCM

When I was a kid, sometime in the middle of the last century I was fascinated by the comic books of Sgt. Fury of the Howling Commandos. Maybe it was going a little too far to call it Historical Fiction, but there wasn't anything remotely fantastical about those stories. Well at least to me. Fast forward and my sons had comics about someone name Nick Fury....who should have been long dead.

Tony Bates

Not to reflect your work at all; but one thing I find when other authors have splintered off, I constantly compare it to the original instead of letting the new work stand alone. It's like trying to match paint colors after years of wear and tear, even if it came out of the same can, it looks different and doesn't feel right.

DCM

Whoops...I posted before I was done. The point being that that original story went places I could never have guessed, but still had some following and popularity. Our John seems to be versatile enough to be in a series about a Terran Marine, a retired guy living on a old freighter wandering around the galaxy...with a girl he saved at an asteroid mine, to a super hero with crazy old than ancient powers. Maybe it's not a stretch to be even more fantasic.

DCM

There is an essential quality to John that maybe we can aspire to. Although I can imagine how it feels to have 4 testicles backed up, 2 is bad enough. Maybe what I am saying is that you have the ability to create a character that although incredible we want to believe in him and we want to follow his adventures.

DCM

I just think there are so many directions that the story could go into. I wish we could have additional writers writing about different adventures and time periods in John's life. It's a series of at least a dozen good stories.

DCM

Additional writers only because I'm impatient. No complaints of our friend Tefler (he adds quickly).

As a reader, I want more of the same universe, but understand that you may need a break. This has been an intense ride. I do not want it to end, but I also don't want this to "jump shark" or to be handed over to a lesser writer. Most important is that you do whatever will keep you writing whatever you want to write. You have a real gift.

Anonymous

Been with you from the start and still here because of the techie stuff. I used to check every day to see when I could get my next fix on Literotica. When you started here, I followed along to (1) give something back and (2) get the story sooner. It is fantastic to see your growth, which makes it even better. Since John and the girls are going to be around for a loooong time this could be a never ending story. BUT! That is up to you. I have no comprehension of where you get all of this. I could not even start. If you have designs to go another direction, go with it, if you want to stay in this vein GREAT! Whatever, it has to be fun for you, otherwise, it becomes a JOB. Good luck, whatever you do.

Anonymous

As with Tom coming from someone who been with you from the star, I'm all for the same universe with the techie, sci-fi, military edge too it. The important thing is to do what keeps you motivated. I can't say I wouldn't enjoy a D&D style adventure as well. If you do go that route how about a half orc ranger (shameless plug since that's what I play)

Anonymous

My vote is for fantasy if only because of how detailed and amazing you've made this story and universe i'm curious what you could do with a fantasy setting. For example maybe instead of just the usual "magic" explanation you could actually to try to relate and explain it thru semi-realistic science or physics, idk just make sure to include a feisty redhead of some sort no story is complete without em ;)

Anonymous

I've been hooked since chapter 3 and I'm really glad to hear you've got an endpoint planned. Some of the best stories are the ones that end on a high note and leave you wanting more, rather than slog onward into obscurity. We may want the story to continue, but that's not necessarily what's best for the epic you've built. My vote is for a high fantasy, but really you should take whatever direction your passion and creativity leads you in. That's where the best stories come from, and I know I'll stick around to see what's next.

Anonymous

I vote for the fantasy option! This is such a great story tefler should take some time on a different topic and stockpile some more awesome plot lines for the next three square meals :)

Anonymous

Tefler, My heart says that you should continue with the TSM universe, but my Brain says that you should write whatever your passion is behind, there is no use in you boring yourself with forcing another TSM story out. so just ignore those that request specific (unless my comment is useless). Keep up the great work :)

Anonymous

I have really enjoyed your writing and the interest and personal investment you make is special. I would encourage you to follow your heart and I will be happy to go along for the ride.

Hinterlands Man

I very much enjoyed TSM and just to put my two cents in, I think a brand new fantasy realm would be lots of fun. There doesn't seem to be any stopping you but after so many chapters in sci fi you may find that it gets very complicated to weave a storyline.

Anonymous

It doesn't matter to me what genre you choose to continue in. I just want you to write a story and world that you are interested and excited about. Then I'll know it'll be great :-D

Anonymous

As a fellow writer, I've greatly admire how fast you're able to write while maintaining such high quality. I have every bit of confidence that you would be able to write an amazing story no matter the genre. The big thing that has enthralled me with TSM is how the central conceit of John's sperm is a major plot device and it allows you to tie sex into the plot seamlessly. Other stories that I've read would start off with a good mix but would eventually eschew the sex in order to wrap up the story, but with TSM that is not possible and it doesn't feel forced either, which is great. If you start a new story, I do hope for a similar plot device and the general "feels good" relationship that TSM has.

Jedi Khan

I say go with option 3: do what you want to do. If you want to do a fantasy series, then by all means, please do so. I happen to like that genre myself, along with Sci-Fi. There's also no rule stating you can't do both a fantasy and continue with the TSM universe as well, and they don't need be different stories either (Progenitor origin story?). Point is you've built a fan base by writing what you've wanted to write from the very beginning. Don't ever change that.

Anonymous

Please write what ever story you are most excited about creating. In that way we are all getting enjoyment out of your efforts. I think you will write best what you want to write the most, and enjoy yourself while doing it.

Anonymous

Dude you write very well, use your own discretion

Muledrvr

I can just see Tefler writing a fantasy story DM style.... "And they went down the hallway quietly.....{rolls D20} Jugath accidently kicks a scull, which rattles down the hall. {rolls D20} the noise made the guarding troll's ear twich, but he ignores the sound....." LMAO

Anonymous

My opinion is,i would prefer a fantasy story.Thank you.

Anonamoose

I say stick to tsm style sci-fi but a fantasy would be good to.

Anonymous

I've enjoyed your story so much Tefler. Thank you for sharing it. I just joined Patreon yesterday and was pleasantly surprised that this chapter marked the one million word mark. It's really impressive work.

Anonymous

Regarding your question, I think you should write whatever feels 'loudest' in your head. There are so many possibilities with the TSM universe, even if you continued on focusing on John and Crew. The Truckstop Takedown was a really interesting story that gave a completely different perspective on the TSM world. If you've got the mojo for writing more, perhaps long term for you, it might be smart to really flesh out the TSM universe. Given the way film or TV or video or whatever they call visual storytelling these days has embraced the serial format, another million or two words in this universe would really give a producer something to work with without having to worry about where the content itself is coming from.

Anonymous

You can do anything you want, but I'd prefer it with a strong male lead and a harem (like in TSM). As for fantasy or SF, both are out of the ordinary fiction with possibilities of superpowers, exotic humanoid species, adventure and mystery. Whatever you do, I'm sure it'll be epic !

VT

Personally I would prefer another story in the same universe. At the same time though, I have to admit that before your story popped-up, I didn't even look in the sci-fi category. So I'm sure that your writing skills and whatever speaks the loudest to you will allow you to create another great story.

Anonymous

A fantasy one, with a dragon or human that becomes a dragon similar to hellcyon days and the endangered stories

Anonymous

I for one am really enjoying TSM and hope you can continue to find new and exciting plot line to keep this going well beyond 300+ chapters. When done I would like an opportunity to purchase an ebook copy of the complete story. That said, I would like to see Setting Sails to continue with at some point him returning (not before chapter 30).

Anonymous

I would prefer Sci fi but for some world options there Ian M Banks culture series or Peter f Hamilton the reality dysfunction or Tad Williams otherworld series.. All using futuristic AI and internet worlds. A story in that type of world I feel would suit your style. As it is your story is great and when finished I will buy it on the internet as a tribute to your work.

Brent

Thinking on it you really do have a lot of options and you could still keep it in universe. I remember there being uncharted regions of space so why can't one of them be a planet where it would be perfect for a fantasy epic to take place.

SpamSpamBacon&Spam

I'm torn. I really love the TSM universe but I think if you were to write another story in it the best option would be to have it completely disconnected. That way you avoid potentially writing yourself into a corner or contrdicting something. Black Sea definitely had great potential and set up something very interesting.

SpamSpamBacon&Spam

On the other hand I love fantasy and it would be great to see what else you can do and may be good for you as a writer to do something different. Either way I think the best results are always going to come from whatever your most passionate about

Anonymous

How about keeping with John and the girls and setting off into unexplored space.

Tefler

Great feedback guys, I've read all the comments, so thanks everyone for replying. You've given me some good ideas about how to approach the next "book" I start on, so i'll keep thinking that over while I work on TSM.

ElminsterAU

First of, given your track record so far I'm convinced that any story you feel strongly enough about to write it will turn out fantastic, and I'll keep reading no matter what the genre is. And I think the best outcome would be when you write whatever you yourself feel the most passionate about. To comment on the specific options you gave: 1) Given that I don't really know what state the universe will be in when TSM finishes, that's hard to answer, but I can imagine new endless possibilities, both for sequels following John as well as other stories set in the same universe. And I definitely would be happy to read either of these. 2) I like high fantasy epics, and definitely would read whatever you come up with. But given the choice, my preference would be more along the lines of urban fantasy. As a reference one of my all time favorite such stories is "A Modern Bard's Tale" (unfortunately incomplete) by "D A Porter" (very unfortunately all 3 authors that shared this pen name are deceased): http://storiesonline.net/s/47257/a-modern-bards-tale http://storiesonline.net/s/49250/a-modern-bards-tale-book-2 I can very well imagine you making this type of setting work for you.

Anonymous

I'd love to see same universe. I stumbled onto your story on stories online and tore through the chapters. There's such a dearth of good sex filled sci fi stories and you do a fantastic job of telling a compelling drama and sexing things up.

CJ Mora

I'd like to see a "second generation" story, maybe with an awkward son who can't live up to his siblings but is essentially a good person, and makes some mistakes along the way to surpassing his father. Having children myself, and having grown from an awkward child into an adult that gives my own father pride, I would find it interesting to see the ugly duckling turn into a beautiful swan and do their parents proud. Like I hope for mine.

Anonymous

Another story in same universe. You've put a lot of work into building this one and its good so when you finish this story, just continue with it.
