Deck Eight used to be part of the marine barracks, but it was removed during the first refit that added a Cargo Bay. Therefore the next deck up is Deck Seven.

Yeah, we are starting to get to the middle decks so the most interesting stuff is coming up soon. Cignal, you did a great job on these and deserve kudos. The Minutae you have put into these designs is spot on and matches perfectly with the chapters!

Evan

It references an Interia Negation Central Core... I assume that’s supposed to be for inertia negation?

I found that to be a bit confusing as well but I believe they have created a tunnel thru the hallways. It looks like its in the engineering bay and rehab rooms as the mass fabricators are stationed around it. At least that was my best guess.

I was not so much talking about the name difference. It's more about the placement and function. This was is right in the middle of the habit section of the ship. All the floors are going to be affected. You basically have a walkway thru the middle of it. Is that going to be healthy (I assume so or they would not have done it). Would having those holes thru it affect it's function? The front version of this does not have this issue. How about structure integration? The only floor plan we have so far is for deck 7. On deck 9 it was in a storage room and most likely solid. I dont recall if this was supposed to be in one piece or was done in layers. In the engineering section, the mass fabricators are stationed around it's curve so it has to have an actual foot print in the room. I believe that is also true on the Rehab side as well. They are actually loosing some square footage on the space that borders the pharmacy and morgue. No access is shown into this area.

Cignal

Paul, there wasn't an 'ideal' place to place them. The rear one had to be somewhat central (from the name) and I think when you see the rest of the decks, it is placed in a spot that is the least disruptive. I recall in that the central cores were allowed to have penetrations through them in a chapter, but I don't remember which one. Yes they do eat up some square footage within the habitable areas but that really isn't a problem with the small crew they have. They were dropped in from the top in one piece. And thanks guys for the nice comments. Since there were areas on deck 7 that were not described, I had a creative license.

My eyes are going so I download your work for SOL so I can have my kindle read and use the voice reader but you added chapter 117 today but when I download it it's only up to 116 thought you would want to know.

Evan

Samuel, I just double-checked and the latest chapter posted to SOL is indeed chapter 117. I had looked before, some 11 hours ago, but I checked it again and it had not changed. It's chapter 117.

You're thinking of chapter 75 where Dana does a walkthrough of the Invictus after the re-fit. The part that mentions it all is: Before Dana could step out into the grav-tube, Alyssa said, “When you asked me to shape new doorways in this grav-tube, I was too busy to bother asking questions at the time, but won’t punching holes in it fuck up the Inertia Negation device?” The Chief Engineer shook her mane of dark auburn hair, and replied, “Nope! The tube is incredibly strong, with the built-in crystalline lattice. Knocking a few holes in it won’t make a difference, and besides, we’ve got the ‘fore-tube’ to share the load now. If anything, the stress on the frame has been lessened since the refit.” I took this to mean the grav tube and the inertia device actually share the same structure. That aside a splendid piece of work both inside and out.

I was just curious with all the deck hallway holes thru them if it would impair their function or be dangerous to be around. Kind of like being close to a very powerful magnet. Long term expose.
