Hey everyone.

While you're waiting for chapter 81, I thought you might be interested in taking a look at a very cool contribution by one of your fellow patrons!

The following documents were put together by Ian C Schuelke and really made me want to write a prequel! Maybe when the main story is finished. :-)

Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did!

,,Siege of Galon Prime '' - would really like to know with whom T-Fed fighted there...

Lord Winter

Awesome stuff!

Jedi Khan

Those citation memos certainly sound like something the military would come up with. Short, to the point, and boring. The writer must certainly have some skill to replicate that so well while resisting the temptation to embellish and make it into a proper literary scene.

Grimlakin

Can you imagine having some rpg playing nerd... (like me) writing these reports. "fist candler Blake upon waking up realized the SNAFU situation and took stock of his supplies, living marines under his command and relative cock size. Upon scoring a critical success to. Rally his troops commander Blake ordered them to take the men and ammo as well as his personal weapons and armor other than a standard issue kbar combat knife. His troops withdrawn and quite naked commander Blake then single handedly delivered divine justice upon the opposition. One marine reported overhearing. "fuck he has a knife and a bat!" before that poor combatant was killed. With what weapon remains unknown. "

Or from a Counter Strike perspective? Player: "Hugewang" appeared in the spawn zone and started jumping up and down, armed with his combat knife. "lolz I'm gonna pwn sum nubs!" "FFS Hugewang, not this shit again!" his teamleader whined. "Just buy a fucking M4 you bellend!" "Nowai! I've got madskillz!" Hugewang replied, still jumping up and down while stabbing the air with his knife. "Alright, but no teabagging this time," the teamleader groaned in frustration. "I need the Quad achievement LOL!!!!11!1!!" Hugewang chortled, bounding away as the round started.

I'm sorry guys, being military these kinda suck. With the timeline the big thing is at the end. There is a big difference between Reserve and Retired. In the showdown with the Admirals if he was even Inactive Reserve he would have had to follow orders of a superior officer. The "frack you I'm retired" would not have worked. And then to make a point they could have activated him and had him thrown in the brig. Then the timeline is a bit thin. What other commendations was he awarded? What advanced schooling? You do not even show him graduating from the acadamy which is in the book. Being a person who has been awarded a few medals and even recommended a few I know how it works. The recomendation goes up thru the channels and the the commendation comes down. You did get award right, you are awarded medals. The citation is the reason for the award. In todays US Army you get the medal and a green book. You open the book and the certificate of the award is on the right and the citation is on the left. The citation could be a full page of details or the DA form, but on the award it might be a one liner like "For Gallantry in Action". The citation is written usually by someone on the staff of the officer who awards the medal (not the person who wrote the recommendation). Trust me, when it comes from a General or Admiral it is pretty damn fancy. Coolness would not be in their vocabulary, "calm and assertive leadership" would be a bit more like it. Dead and killed would be more KIA and WIA. Enemy would be enemy combatants. You do not claim anything, it is the facts. Instead of "2nd Lt Blake's actions were in keeping with the highest standards of Naval Service and reflect great credit upon himself and his Battalion". Try " 2nd LT Blake's bold actions and distintictive accomplishments are in keeping with the finest military traditions and reflect great credit upon himself, his Unit, this Command, and the Terren Federation Navy". And then who signed them? I'm thinking the Nova Burst might be like a Silver Star and the Stellar Cluster maybe like a Service Cross or a Medal of Honor. A major heavy-weight like a 4 star is going to have to sign off on that.

Wookey

Ken, given your experience can I suggest you work with Tefler to re-write in a manner more consistent with military practice.

that and i doubt a 1st lt would be made CO...

PLRus--Founding member of the TSM F5 club.

Joshua: That depends upon the service, the country, and the battlefield situation. In the field, the highest ranking member of the unit is automatically the commander of that unit. And that changes with death or incapacitation on a moment's notice. So, yes, a 1st LT can be the Commanding Officer of a battlefield unit if the Officers ranked above him/her are OOC. Often times field promotions are given in those situations and, if the unit is successful (survives) in their mission, that becomes permanent.
