Okay I'm 30 mins in (gotta stop halfway cause I have a meeting lol but will be continuing) but first of all, it's exciting to experience this new start of content with you! This will be my third time watching but I can tell I'm still gonna enjoy this. Also you're sooo quick at noticing the foreshadowing, the implied meanings and what not so it's really satisfying to see you hitting the nail on a lot of things 😂

Thilde

Both your comments are really unnecessary. He's gonna find out everything as he goes anyway? Why tamper with the experience by giving info like this

Romang

to answer ur question, yes squid game is a real game haha. all the games in this show are common in Korea

Oh nice, gonna look forward to rewatching the show with you :D

So happy you've started this! Obviously reacting to kpop is very different to reacting to dramas, so I was curious to see how you'd approach this. And you're doing a great job so far! Thoughtful analysis, while also having that emotional investment in the content. Very similar to how I watch stuff. Looking forward to the next episode 🙂 Already loving the switch to Vimeo by the way, if this is something that's sustainable for you then I'd have no complaints about more of it going forward. And funny that you brought up the Battle Royale comparison, I just watched that recently and loved it. Super entertaining movie, and I can definitely see some similarities to Squid Game.

From what I understand, the actor playing the main character is established and well-known in Korea. I believe the actors playing his childhood friend and the tattoo-faced thug are also relatively well known. This was the first acting role for the woman playing the pickpocket. She is a model in Korea. The "savior" is also an unknown actor. He apparently moved to Korea specifically to study acting and get acting jobs there. Gong Yoo, the actor that played the game in the subway, is also well-known. You may recognize him as the main character from Train to Busan. I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it, and I also recommend the drama he starred in called Goblin (aka Guardian, the Lonely and Great God).

yay!! i was looking forward to this the most in your schedule! i usually find it hard to watch kdrama reactions cos it's such a commitment LOL but i rly enjoyed squid game and this was so fun rewatching it again with you. i love how you brought up some parts about the way it was shot and the use of music etc that i nvr noticed or appreciated when i was watching it before. anw i'm really looking forward to the rest of the episodes! ps. i personally dont rly have a preference between vimeo or dropbox. both work the same for me.

I don’t watch these shows for the political drama I just watch for entertainment because it’s obviously overdramatized so I take it as it is and enjoy the show but great reaction

KpopPrince

Ah, that was the guy from Train to Busan! I watched it like two years ago for the first time. Thought it was alright, if not slightly melodramatic. I think the hype going into it colored my expectations too much.

omg i didn't know youd react to this

My favourites for this death game concept are definitely battle royale and alice in borderland! But I did enjoy this show and it's very binge-worthy.

Finally some k-dramas!! squid game was my introduction to k-dramas and it's a pretty good show. Thrilled to see the next one. And i hope someday you'll watch Vincenzo it's my favourite k-drama atm (andit's the one with the Solar OST you reacted to) also have you any news on your discord??

KpopPrince

Would Squid Game even classify as a Kdrama? This month I'm shooting for, it's a pain in the butt to get everything situated how I want it!

Unexpected Star Fox reference cracked me up, so true though! It's cool to see you try something new, and I got the same chill yet thoughtful vibe from this that I always appreciate with your regular content. I also like the comments on cinematography, that stuff can make or break a movie for me. Looking forward to more! I saw Battle Royale some 15 years ago and loved it, but strangely never rewatched it. The concept can be adapted in a lot of ways though, and the social and political commentary that K-dramas are nearly always full of works pretty well here. I don't really have a preference for Dropbox/Vimeo, but this worked well.

Ok cool news! As for if squid game is a k-dramas or not i have no clue, i just basically call every korean series K-dramas XD i'm simple-minded sometimes

No joke, I was about to watch the Battle Royale sequel on the weekend (knowing that it supposedly sucks) and then my computer broke, so I haven't got around to it yet.

Oh also, as someone who has watched a lot of Korean movies. They definitely do explore wealth inequality and class disparity a lot, like you said. The other thing I've noticed a ton, is that police are almost always incompetent, corrupt or both in Korean movies.

It's going to be really interesting re-watching this with you. I probably wouldn't have seen it again otherwise (at least not for a year or two) because it can be kinda hard to stomach. But it really is addictive, I hadn't binged a show in years before squid game

Can't believe I missed this upload and I'm a week late but I'm glad you're reacting to this! This is my first time watching someone react to a k-show so I was curious how this would turn out, and I genuinely enjoyed this so much and I really appreciate your thoughtful analysis. You're also so good at pointing out the subtle "clues". Excited for the next episodes! 💙
