You are totally going to lose it over Stray Kids and ATEEZ. I can't wait to see your reaction.

true! But I really like sf9 stage too. Even with a simple props and stage, they delivered a good performance. !

I think I had more things to say but forgot the further I watched! This is why I usually write as I go lol! I really did enjoy Ikon's performance and found it really funny when Chani stood up when he heard Killing Me. He was so happy they listened to him! Seonghwa's reactions throughout the show are the highlight of the episode honestly. He just looks so shocked and amazed by literally everything that happens on the stage. To be honest with you once I got to BTOB's stage, I know them the least, I was a little less interested. However, Missing You is one of my favorite songs in the whole of kpop. Would definitely recommend checking it out on your own. The vocals are even crazier on the actual track. I think how I would rank these three performances would be 1. The Boyz, 2. Ikon, 3. BTOB. I liked all three of the performances, and I kind of get where you're coming from for The Boyz using a lot of props. However, their performances out of these three seemed most fit for Kingdom. I also am more lenient towards The Boyz and what they choose because I feel like there's more pressure on them out of everyone here. They have to live up to the expectations from Road to Kingdom while also coming up with new creative performances. I watched episode 3 with like 10% subs, which is pretty okay for the performance aspect of it. Pretty much reactions and words I can pick up from the half a course of Elementary Korean I've completed. However, it did get a little confusing when they were doing rankings. Would definitely say wait for that 100% version for that. Tbh idek what happens at that point. Will probably learn whenever you post that part of the video. But the performances are just as good as here so definitely be hyped!! I think Minhyuk (sword guy) and Eunkwang (is that his name) are the older two from what I've picked up through this show. Then Peniel (bald guy) and Changsub (he didn't have a defining feature this episode but has the softest face ig?) are the younger ones. I think the subs said Changsub's body is physically the youngest of BTOB (with their current lineup) when he was complaining about their "old man" muscles. Also maybe they feel so old and like they can't continue with flips and such, because years of doing it has taken a toll on their bodies. I've seen Seventeen members having to tape muscles and wrap their feet and legs to be able to perform. As well as injuries that come with dancing. And they are even younger than BTOB. But honestly I'm not sure. I'm not a dancer or athletic person, so that's just my hypothesis.

I mean I'm 30 and almost 31...and I feel it lol. My prime was my early 20s. I had abs. I slacked off hard in my 20s with my desk job and not working out because when your metabolism decides to slow down you should know...actually change your unhealthy lifestyle habits lol My rank is 1. BtoB 2. iKON 3. The Boyz. I really enjoyed all the performances but BtoB made me tear up when I watched it. They punched me in the feels with how gorgeous their performance and vocals were. iKON had me SO happy for them because they actually put so much more effort and it was SO good. The Boyz's performance was really nice. It was a lot to take in...but I did hear a lot of live vocals, which they didn't do in RtK so I was actually really proud that they put in extra effort on something that a lot of us pointed out in RtK. It still had a loud back track, but I heard a few of them loud and clear. Random fact because I didn't know BtoB before this and read up on them. The "bald guy" Peniel was born in Chicago and he has alopecia.

Stanley Maximillian

My rank for this episode is: 1 BtoB 2 iKon 3 The Boyz My rank after the whole performances: 1 ??? 2 ??? 3 BtoB 4 ??? 5 iKon 6 The Boyz

There was a huge uproar regarding the varying budgets for stages...apparently MNet admitted that they had failed to communicate that there was a $5000 budget for props in the "To the World" stage. This resulted in a bit of a discrepancy. As you can see, iKon's stage barely had any props. Keep this in mind moving into EP 3. Regarding Peniel (bald BtoB rapper) I think it's fair to say he looks a little stiff. The reason he has a shaved head is due to anxiety/stress induced alopecia. I think he struggled with his identity within BtoB, it was probably very tough for him as an American trainee, especially during a time when the industry was much more brutal. I was hoping that iKon would do some Motown inspired stuff, and they actually did. Jumped out of my chair when I heard the remix. Also, early BtoB songs had some very slick choreo (they were actually kind of a dance-centric group) but as they progressed they became known as vocal/ballad gods. They've had an interesting career.

LUC_Rambler

I would love to get inside of the head of the makeup artist that did that to Changbin.... "Nice, you look absolutely atrocious. Job done!" Trypophobia activated.

hi_k99

the budget thing was so disappointing, especially considering that its a big deal yg artists are even appearing on mnet after so long, the same goes for the camera angles in some performances, i saw something about it not capturing ikon's performance perfectly in the last episode and yg releasign their practice video to show its actual essence, they won't just let us enjoy the show in peace, i saw some other article about mnet messing up again in the recent episode but i just don't even want to look at it at this point....

hi_k99

btob are just clowns, they totally knew it was their turn, they were just clowning the editing and the 'DIRECTOR' soe in the captions, reminds me of Changmin saying he envied eungkwang for already becoming a director at his company 10 years into his career when he himself is still just an artist at sm though 30 isnt at all 'old' but having done this stuff for over a decade and serving in the military for like 2 years has surely brought to their bodies some level of unrecoverable change eunkwang and changsub's career's as musical actors is just one of the many evidences of their vocal superiority

Juuls

I really don't agree with you that iKON 'definitely deserved sixth'. Their opening stage was so different and fun from all the other ones, they really showed their own colours and who they are. It was my personal favourite. I was underwhelmed by the skz & sf9 introduction stages personally. They got sixth place since their fans are clearly voting less than newer generations of fans do, which absolutely makes sense, but still sucks. I'd put them in first place any day! I had the same ranking for these first three, iKON absolutely blew me away. I had soo much fun watching them, like I actually screamed like a little girl and I don't even know them that well... hahahah I watched episode 3 yesterday and boy, it mentally drained me. I cried, I laughed, I was stressed the fuck out, it was a whole fucking rollercoaster of emotions. I probably have to skip through your reaction, cause I don't think my heart could handle it... (and I mean this in like a good way but also I'm still stressed)

hi_k99

btob's performance and seonghwa's reaction was my favorite part of this episdoe, and like woosung said, i immediately rewatched it and have been watching this video regularly, i just missed this song so much...

Juuls

Ooh fun! I wanna do that too.. my rank for all 6 performances: 1. ??? 2. iKON 3. ???/BtoB 4. ???/BtoB (I can't choose I'm sorry) 5. ??? 6. The Boyz

hi_k99

minhyuk's actually the second oldest, just a week younger than eunkwang, peniel's the youngest among them

wowoooowow

There is a difference for sure between 20 and 30, but is not as dramatic as kpop makes it look, the worst thing is I now get hungover and my metabolism has slowed down. But again, I have not been dancing on injuries for 15years or had months with almost no sleep. I have not watched the new episode yet so only saw 3 performances. I think my favourite was BTOB because it was just really beautiful overall on all aspects, and the lyrics hit so hard (it has been a year since the beginning of this nightmareee and it made me cry). But my favourite bit was the end of IKON performance them just going crazy. The Boyz POV really threw me off, and I did not click with the concept. I hope they will go for more elegant contemporary art piece like the dancing against the sheet because that was just beautiful. The controversies are starting to be a lot, which is not on any groups as they are just doing their best, but MNET as usual. First the budget, now the unclear and very shady window for counting streaming, the experts, it's a lot even for their non existing standards. On a lighter note, MNET please provide an edit of all performances with Seonghwa reaction in a corner, personal highlight of the episode, he embodied all my feelings in each performance.

If I were to rank these three based on the performance it would be 1. ikon 2.btob 3. The boyz Even though the performance was a little confusing for me, I would love if they put this version of No Air on Spotify. And the budget thing. I was wondering after seeing all the performances that if it really was fairly distributed. Now that I think back on it there was a performance that seemed to have way less money than the others. I couldn't understand how their props cost the same as the other groups' props. Can't wait for the next reaction!

KPOP Stan Sara

One group I'd point out is ATEEZ in that...they used props they already owned from what I've read. I heard people were attacking them for cheating the system in a way, but I just don't view ATEEZ as being a group that would do something like that to improve their odds to win. They're very humble. I think it was a logical move on their part to save money tbh...I just don't want them getting hated on >< they're such sweet babies trying to enjoy their first competitive show like this.

sumi mia

Yes. I now remembered when you mentioned this. They did say they are going to use props they already have. I didn't want to say specific groups first because of spoilers and second I don't know what really goes on behind the scenes. But few stood out to me regarding the budget (and I'm not blaming the groups members) and Ateez was not it. This situation really sucks, but what can we do.

KPOP Stan Sara

Ahhh - yeah I figured as long as I didn't say what the props were it wasn't too spoilery. :) As I said before...I just hate drama. Even with the ones with the smaller budget that weren't informed I think did amazing. I don't think props make your performance, but can take away from it potentially (like The Boyz imo). But I think of like iKON's performance and BtoB where they had some, but not much and even if it was a lesser amount their performances were beyond amazing. I'm happy they didn't add more. I think it would have taken away from the performance.

LUC_Rambler

I'm just here to hate-watch TBZ, can't forgive em for doin my Pentagon and ONF dudes like that. I agree though, and I personally think they would have been quite high if there was a live audience, and it was the audience doing the actual voting. Oh but wait! I'm not done with TBZ. I can't wait to watch their next stage where they pull a rabbit out of a hat while riding a unicycle on a tightrope!

Juuls

Ahw don't hate tbz for that! I will never forget and forgive deobis for the rough times during rtk but it's not tbz's fault!

LUC_Rambler

Ahhhh....I mean props to KQ for finding the loophole xD I was wondering how the fuck that prop made sense

Cat R

I haven't watched the 3rd episode yet so so far my ranking would be: 1. The Boyz - Even though their stage did feel a bit too much with props and special effects it was still my favorite because I liked the way they rearranged No Air and the dancing was great and the emotion WAS there, I just hope they look at this and realize it was a bit over kill and tone it down for the next performance. 2. BTOB - their vocals were killer, the concept was beautiful and Minhyuk absolutely killed it! They did more of a "Kingdom" performance but still kept their unique style~ 3. iKON - I liked their performance but tbh Love Scenario is like my least favorite song from them (I know, blasphemy) so I wasn't that hype for it and I didn't really like the "big band" style they turned it into, the switch up also seemed a bit TOO sudden ya know? But that's just me. I can see they're going in the right direction though! On another note, yes BTOB is not that old but being an idol is like being a professional athlete in a sense. Athlete's have a short shelf life, once you get passed your 20's you're considered old and close to retirement in a lot of sports and there is a reason for that. When you spend 95% of your time dancing, having irregular sleep schedules, travelling constantly ect your body ages so much faster. So no they're not that old but due to their work they're more prone to injuries and exhausting their muscles especially since most K-Ent companies push groups to their limits and give them minimal time to rest. Of course that doesn't apply to EVERYONE, I mean Shinhwa is a gen 1 group and all the members are in their 40's but still dance and are still an active group BUT for some it does become hard to do more difficult moves such as flips and intense choreo once they reach a certain age.

Stanley Maximillian

Yeah, episode 3 is wildddddddddddddd......... And I really feel really really really really really really sad for them because everything just didn't work for them....... They can't practice enough because of their schedule, the camerawork from Mnet was utterly disappointing and didn't capture their awesome stunts, they hurt themselves, they are forced to have very limited props, YET THEY STILL SLAY THE PERFORMANCE, but they are betrayed by the results....... I didn't know them very well but I might start stanning cos I just want all the best for them :(

James Wallisch

Are you done with queendom???

KpopPrince

Nope! Just on all small hiatus atm because of Kingdom and how much real life work I have

I know this comment is super late but I saw that you kept mentioning why idols in korea seem to have a different age perception compared to westerners and I wanted to say something about that haha You have to remember that all these idols begin training at 15-16, and their training pre-debut as well as their preparations/performances after debut are a lot more physically intense and demanding compared to what an average person would go through. This will literally add on years to your body, which is why careers like this have a 'prime' period (same as most sports careers). Those 10-15 years spent training and performing will take a toll on the body which is why idols or performers start to slow down their activities once they reach 30 so as to not cause any more damage. Its a little different from western artists (they usually don't slow down their activities as early as kpop idols do) but you have to remember to compare the intensity of the performances that normal kpop idols do everyday vs the average western perfomer. Of course, there are western artists who do intense choreo too, but lets be real, not many. This is why kpop idols perceive age differently, when they imply that they're "too old" for something they're usually referring to their 'age' in regards to which point of their career they are in. Like for BTOB, their average age is 30, which is usually the point where most idols would start to slow down and only have limited activities in the industry. So that's kind of why they seem to see their age differently compared to someone like you or me who doesn't have to undergo what they've been experiencing since they were 15 haha, just wanted to share some insight based on interviews from idols about this

I_KPOP_Fan

When you say the Korean pizza looks nasty and they are eating Papa Johns 😂😂😂 You aren’t wrong.

I know its too late for comment about kingdom hahah.. but bcs i came here to watch all btob content, i'll add some info for this performance. Actually, the original missing you choreo, they use sign language. Its a gift for fans on Day of People with Disabilities in South Korea. They even record a accoustic video version with their deaf fans. And they includid this sign language choreo on this perform. And for this first round, since the theme is "to the world" btob show their hits song that being anthem in korea, and use tradisional theme for this perform. They got soo much praised from k-netz bcs they choose to show about korean tradisional. And about dance, btob is a dance group when they debut. They debut on 2012 and unfortunetely they didnt get their win until 2015. They almost give up, and comeback with ballad bcs they want to do that. And get their first win with ballad song. But if you think they just stick to ballad, you're wrong.. btob have very diverse discography, they release many genre like rock, pop-rock, funk, trot etc. Btob have very strong vocal and rapp line, especially vocals. They've known as best vocal group that even their rapper on the same level as main vocal in another group. They still doing dance performance but not on hard dance point. They just doing by their own dance. Thats why k-netz called btob genre is btob.
