I think a lot of people feel this is their favourite day6 album for exactly the reasons you stated at the end!

Jay Geris

This is going to save my day, i can tell. I'm so excited

steyn broere

OMG I JUST SAW THE NOTIF THIS IS MY FAV ALBUM OF ALL TIME ;-; OMG thank youuuuu

Juuls

aah yes, welcome to the wondrous world that are day6 albums.... not fine is a personal fave as well! so nice to see you get emotional on camera for like the first time ever, can't blame you! the demon is my personal favourite (mini) album EVER, so very excited for your reaction :)

Ry1459

Not Fine has been in my top 5 most played songs on Spotify for the past 2 years. I love it so much.

wowoooowow

Not fine hits way too close to home, but it is amazing. YoungK lyrics really resonates with me, they are straightforward but so relatable, they really capture the essence of the situation and emotion he wants to portray. I am into pop rock but depressing is also my lane, and their b sides are amazing, you have a lot to listen to.

wowoooowow

lmao, thanks for the call out at the end about people relating being late 20/early 30. harsh but fair.

Megan

I was planning on sleeping but not anymore!

Jay Geris

Okay. I'm done watching. I'm so glad you have now had the chance to hear this whole album. It's my favorite full album in kpop as well. As far as the story of the album goes, it really fits well into the "The Book of Us" series. Gravity is more about the positive and fun side of love, Entropy gets into the deeper consuming side of love and all of the pain it can cause, Demon explores that a bit more but is sort of more honest and confrontational (bc day6 are sadboys forever), and then Gluon is about finding the ways you can come back together stronger. I have a feeling Negentropy will have a bit of everything, but all we can know is that it wraps up the series.

steyn broere

Not Fine was my most listened song of the year on spotify of 2020 and most listened album

Steph M

While I really love the catchy pop songs, I've realised recently how much I've been craving more raw and emotional songs in kpop, and DAY6 have been a real blessing to discover. I've only recently been getting into them and hadn't gotten around to this album yet, so I'm really happy that this reaction pushed me to listen to it. I enjoyed the whole thing, but everything from Not Fine onwards really blew me away. And your commentary definitely added to the experience of listening to it by the way, this is one of my favourite videos you've done so far.

KK

So conceptually, the whole The Book of Us is a journey that's why the songs all fit together (this one tho incorporated so many genre, it was meant to be that way cause Entropy = Chaos). The whole thing actually starts off with Gravity (the whole album talks about being curious about love and then meeting someone who could probably show it to the "Protagonist"). Then we have this, and it starts off with Deep in Love and Sweet Chaos obviously talks about infatuation, limerence, the honeymoon phase. And as it progresses, their differences are starting to show and it's hurting the other. The rose-colored glasses being taken off and them realizing it's not working out. And anybody who's been in a failed relationship has been through this one way or another. Btw, this continues on to Demon, Gluon and Negentropy. Also they're really using Physics terms to describe the phases of human relationship. CONCEPT. Btw, I used to listen to a lot of the band you mentioned. Breaking Benjamin, Seether etc. :( i love sad alt rock songs too.

KpopPrince

This means a lot coming from you, thank you! There are certain videos I feel like uploading ASAP because I'm so high on them after recording. This was one of em

Ayeyassha

Love this one so much, this album actually made me become a myday back in 2019 so yeah. Also hope that you'll listen to Demon before reacting to the newest the Book of us album, because the new one is the last album in the book of us series while The Demon is the second to last. Also, the Book of us the Demon is my personal fave of the TBOU series, who knows maybe the new one will be my new fave 0J0.

Dominika K.

Woah, I didn't expect tonight to be this deep, but re-experiencing this album "with you" was a journey. To be honest, after listening to Demon, I hadn't really come back to this release, even tho I really love the second half of the album (I think it's supposed to be Sweet & Chaos, the first half is happy, in love, fun and exciting... then the differences starting to become too huge to ignore, and by the second half we can't pretend that everything's fine). Like a Flowing Wind is actually my favourite Day6 song ever (or maybe second after Afraid, it's a neverending dilemma). But Not Fine - Stop Talking - Not Mine and Like a Flowing Wind is such a great line up, I remember I was a sobbing mess by the end of the album on the first listen. Day6 is very strong lyrically, and Young K is the mastermind behind like 85% of them. No one knows who hurt Young K this much but his words are simple (in the best way) but so relatable it hurts, but it's comforting to know that we are not alone feeling this way. (I feel like Onewe's discography is more dream-like? Poetic lyrics with dramatic sound - but maybe it's just Kanghyun's touch, and Yonghoon vocals... I definitely feel more connected to Onewe's music at the moment, however this might change with the coming of Negentropy. It's going to be an emotional and uplifting experience!) I was listening to Muse and Evanescence a lot while growing up. It's kinda funny how later I turned to kpop... I don't know if I'm the only one or not, but I'd be really interested in your musical journey. To be honest, never listened to Seether (other than Broken), but I really liked Breaking Benjamin. Who were your favourite musicians back then? What's your all time favourite band/artist? I know it's kpop reaction channel, but I really like your taste in music and your commentary on things. Sungjin will be part of this album! Thank god! I miss his voice so much. We got an incredible amount of Young K and Jae ever since their hiatus, and Wonpil had a few songs as well, but Sungjin went radio silent, then showed up for a few weeks, then disappeared to the military. I really really missed his voice. Thank you for this reaction! It was the best hour of my week so far. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and emotions with us.

KpopPrince

Aw thank you so much for such a heartfelt message! My musical journey is long and varied with SO many different types of music so it'd be hard to explain here haha. I loved a lot of the big songs Muse put out back in the day like Time Is Running Out and Starlight. Seether honestly wasn't one I liked much, just gave them as an example. I was more of a Breaking Benjamin/Chevelle guy. Loved all the pop-punk and emo groups like MCR, Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, ect. Sum 41 was the first group that got me into music with their Half Hour of Power EP.

Dominika K.

Oh okay, my bad, I must have been trippin then haha. BB, MCR, Chevelle, Sum41 - they are all fire! Haven't heard anything from Taking Back Sunday and Brand New, but I looked them up, and woooow, I suddenly feel like an angsty teen when I felt like no one understood me and my huge problems. Too bad they never blew up in my country, I'm pretty sure my teen self would have loved them with passion.

Thanks for reacting to this artwork! ❤️ The Book Of Us is possibly the most beautiful saga I have ever heard. Entropy is such a fabulous album that it needs to be heard by everyone. 🌼 The Demon, UFFF, I need to see your reaction soon! ✨

KpopPrince

So many of those groups were everything growing up! I've seen Taking Back Sunday live over 20 times. Some other big ones for me, if you're interested, were Senses Fail, Armor For Sleep, and Yellowcard.

chibikim

I joined your patreon this month for this reaction alone! I was one of the people nagging you about it in youtube comments. I'm glad you really enjoyed it and I was trying to guess which song you cried to before watching it (thought it was the last track, so I lost lol). The album was deliberately divided from the first and second halves, the first being the "warm" side of discovering and experiencing new love, and the second being the "cold" realization that that love is falling apart. Fun fact: the album was initially going to be a mini album, I think consisting mostly of the songs from the latter half, but the Gravity album did so well, that they decided to add almost double the songs. I grew up listening to all types of music, so I loved the variety if this album, but my heart, like yours, definitely lies with the more sad and/or rock heavy songs since those were my jam in my formative teenage years. Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Flyleaf, MCR, Meg and Dia, etc. to name a few. Day6 has such amazing range to pull off a song like Rescue Me and then give us a latin inspired track like 365247 right after. Another fun fact: if you didn't know, while Day6 was last touring in the US, they were interviewed, photographed by and appeared on the cover of Alternative Press magazine. I hadn't seen yet alone bought one of those mags in over a decade. Really sent me back in time to high school.

KpopPrince

Wow! I never could have imagined Alt Press having a kband on their cover. That's so cool! I love hearing that some of my Patrons come from a similar music background to me 😊

Dominika K.

Thank you for the recommendations! I'm going to dive into them later today/tomorrow. (Right now it's Day6 time for me.) Aaaaand now you made me really miss live concerts...

hi_k99

I state only facts when I say DAY6 does not have a single bad song, not even a 'meh' song, they are all good songs if not masterpieces. This album was love but there's never been a middle ground for their albums, from debut till now, all of them have been amazing albums. I have so much to say about so many songs on this album but i totally have the same feeling towards NOT FINE, it brings out this weird emotion, like it gets me but that's just sad somehow... The chorus just does weird things to me every single time and I've been listening to this song for what? like over a year now. The lyrics in one part remind me of their other song, "HURT ROAD" that made me cry so bad the first time I listened to, and almost drives me into this dark place every time I do, Wonpil's and Jae's vocals on this are just murder... Colors, Winter Goes, Afraid are just some of the other songs of this vibe but nothing compares to hurt road to me, it is one my saddest sad songs... maybe its becuz i was at a dark place when i first listened to that song and those emotions come with the song to me now, but its lyrics felt like they peeked into my soul and that just broke me then i guess, they definitely touch something... Like the Flowing Wind too was nothing less of a tear jerker, the chorus again is a murder weapon, i honestly love every single one of their voices but i truly feel sungjin's almost raw vocals in day6 choruses paint them in brand emotion i associate only with day6 songs, and the way jae and wonpil's beautiful voices then work togather to make the listener vulnerable, ugh.... and then Brian's just doing everything, he's one of my favourite vocalists in the entirety of the music industry i swear! I really liked how they experimented with the production on this album, just shows how talented these boys are! I love how the lyrics of their songs are at times so simple, but now that i understand korean to some level, the terms they actually use and the way they just structure certain phrases touch differently, its like they know all the trigger points, just beautiful lyrics and genius musicians! Lol, this turned into a fangirling rant, looking forward to reactions of their other albums too. oooh, and tmi: wonpil's musical "Midnight Sun" is coming up soon maybe, i saw the trailer and it has youngjae from got7 and onew from shinee too, lucky people who'll be listening to all these vocal gods, i believe it will be broadcasted online...

Yes. The song in this album actually parted by a concrete theme. Just like entropy (in physic); which they have side A and Side B in which side A is hot and side B is cold. You can watch their intro film (?) for this album to understand more. Side A is song that portray the ‘hot’ in relationship and side B portray when the relationship getting ‘cold’. The way they list the tracklist for this album by Side A and Side B, match with the concept of entropy - that’s why The Book of Us series is a kill, the best series frm DAY6. This album definitely a roller coaster ride, and I’m loving it for that! You really need to listen to The Demon. And if you want to understand why the songs is written that way and this way, you really need to understand the concept of The Demon; which everyone have their own demon in their selves / they’re demons that will break any relationship (yes you can watch the introduction film for The Demon too, to understand the meaning behind the album and the songs). Nevertheless I really love The Book of Us series. Thinking on Negentropy that gonna be the end / epilogue of the series; such a bitter sweet experience with DAY6

So glad i signed up just to catch this reaction! Great reaction as always dude. BAKSU ;) Sooo many good comments here, like what folks said about the way Day6 designed the 2 halves of the album (warm vs cold, to reflect the physics of the entropy of a relationship)! The lyrics you liked in "About Now" are written by Jae! i found that that's a huge diff between Youngk's approach to lyrics vs Jae's - is Jae gives these loaded snapshots of life/emotions whereas Youngk is a little fuzzier/poetic? Also, guitar solos in ANY Day6 song is always Jae. Sungjin = rhythm guitar dude. the only time he solos is when it's his time in the spotlight live to play his solo and it's adorable. Jae's solos tend to be fiery and much more technically challenging. And I hate to be that person but 2 corrections: 1. in Ouch, it's not an island reggae feel per se but more Latin bossanova and the accent/feel YoungK is doing in the rap part of "Stop Talking" is a nod to reggae. (Day6 have def done reggae-feel songs before, like in Dance Dance for example.) Correction 2 - the ethereal part that blew your mind (and everyone else's, let's be honest) in Not Mine is the bridge, not the prechorus. Anyway, i've been waiting for you to react to Entropy and i'm glad you took the time - and energy, phew - to do it. And yes, Day6 albums and esp the concerts are religious experiences. I joke that Kleenex should be their official sponsor. But ultimately, one walks away energized and pumped from Day6 concerts and not drained. Cannot wait to see what bittersweet magic they have waiting for us on April 19th...

KpopPrince

I think it's so wild that all those people are going to be in a musical! I don't know anything about it exactly. It's like a pre-recorded musical or is it a straight up live stage musical?

KpopPrince

Excited to hear what they'll do with the new album because it doesn't seem like anyone is too sure on a concept. I always have a fear with groups/bands that are finishing a series like "The Book Of Us." As if it signals the end of them for some reason. Hope that's never the case.

KpopPrince

Hm it's funny that you mention reggae with Dance Dance, because in my head I was like "what, that doesn't sound like reggae at all!" Then I started humming the verses in my head and it clicked haha.

Anonymous

not the whole song, just the 2nd verse is straight up reggae.

hi_k99

What I read talked about livestreaming so it's live I guess, they did that with JAMIE last year too, I remember it being a big deal

because i'm a drummer and a nerd, watch 4:22-5:05 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdJ4rD8pvUg

The Real Jules

So excited to see this reaction up here on patreon (yay!) and eagerly await the listen through of Demon (one of my favourite albums of 2020). Day6 has such depth and range in their b-sides, so I'm always happy when someone does a deep dive. And I'm sure some MyDay has said this already, but it's a bit of an 'in' joke with us around the deep/emotional lyrics for many Day6 songs and YoungK often gets asked who hurt him to write like that (he insists nobody...). Dude can craft some poignant and relatable lyrics, for sure. And lastly, they're just so good live - they were the last live gig I saw before the world locked down, when they were on their Gravity world tour stop in London.

Ally

I joined patreon to sub for you for this reaction- so excited to see you getting into Day6's full albums. It made me laugh when you talked about them naming songs horribly- you're officially becoming a myday. Its an inside joke that while they can't remember their lyrics, we can't remember their song titles! Even those of us who have been fans for years too have a difficult time matching up some song titles with the songs, even if we can recite the actual music off by heart!

tezcas

legendary album. thank you for your thoughtful reaction. deep in love - yeah i think the vocals being lower is on purpose, to achieve this effect of the specific 80s style sound. one of my favorite tracks off the album. and you immediately understood how fun that one would be live - as a lot of their songs. i've seen day6 multiple times and their concerts are really amazing for that reason. hope you get the chance to go one day emergency - your reaction was all mydays when this dropped lmao. i didn't like this song when i first heard it, it was really jarring to me, but after a couple listens i already loved it not fine has that effect on me as well. the chorus has a powerful effect of catharsis, imo. there's a sense of releasing tension you didn't even know you had

It’s a bitter sweet but I don’t think it’s the end? DAY6 already did the Youth series but bcs The Book of Us series takes about 2 years to end; and all the songs in this series is somehow is sooooo relatable, it’s hard to part away. Also bcs this is the last series before we experience military hiatus for abt 5 years, frm them - I can’t help but cry. Huhu. But nevertheless I really excited what will happen to Sungjin next year (after he done his service). He never have a chance to release his solo stuff, so I guess next year is gonna be his year and I hope Studio J really helps him to shine more. It’s ashamed, as someone who is the reason the band created in an idol company, Sungjin didn’t have his solo stuff up. With the hiatus as a whole group bcs of the service, I hope he can take care of his stuff more next year.

Oh abt the musical thingy, it’s a theater musical, acting + singing. I don’t think Jamie did any theater musical last year (?) or I’m tripping? They have offline viewing ticket open for the theater (it’s sold out already btw HAHA) and last week they open for online viewing. You can check DAY6official twitter if you want to watch it online.

tezcas

btw, i think you watched a friendship test video before and enjoyed it, right? if you wanted to see random/fun stuff during their comeback since we aren't gonna get much ot5 content like other times, day6 did one too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvuikNQKZQU

Shaina

Thank you for this reaction. I've watched this for more than twice already (I kid you not), and I still find your reactions entertaining everytime. However, I'm only commenting now because I felt like there's so much I wanted to say but I can't form them properly through words. 🤣 Anyway, DAY6's The Book of Us series is really amazing, and it's a wonderful concept of how a relationship begins and ends. I also think TBOU: Gravity isn't recommended to you enough (because it's a lot more feel good; it talks more about being excited about being in love), but it's a really good album and a really great way to begin the series! But one thing I really want you to react from it is their "Best Part" Gravity Tour Performance Video. It's a wonderful concert-opener, and it's a happy song but I get emotional from its beauty everytime I hear it. On this reaction though, I loved the fact that you were so surprised from the variety of genres in the album. It's a great feat from DAY6, but unfortunately, it's not really that recognized in the overall K-pop community. 😭 It sucks because it's such a masterpiece, but I can't blame people for not knowing too. (I only blame JYPE for not promoting them well enough. 😔) Entropy is my all-time favorite album from DAY6 because of how diverse it is and how they showcased their musicality, but there are A LOT MORE other songs that appeal to me from other albums. I think that says a lot with how consistent DAY6 is in producing high-quality songs. The B-sides from their Every Day6 Project are good too (one example is I Need Somebody which you've already heard)! I don't know if I can comment more on the things you said during your reaction, but I agreed with a lot of things you said. About how the songs felt, about their complexity, etc. I also don't listen to 365247 and Ouch that much compared to the other tracks from Entropy, but I jam to them from time to time because they're catchy as fuck. Anyway, I look forward to your next album reaction, be it Negentropy or The Demon! The album sampler for the former was already released, and let me just tell you that ALL the tracks already sound good. I can't wait to hear all of them when the album drops. 😭 Thank you again for this wonderful reaction! If I think of more stuff to say, I'll come back here and shamelessly comment again. I hope you don't mind. 🤣

KK

Same. I was so confused when I first heard Emergency. I initially stanned Day6 for the sadboi tracks but I kid you not when I say I have to listen to Emergency before I start work. It's become my alt for coffee. LMAO
