Pentagon insisted on doing live vocals. I think they still had a backing track, but they sang live every time (and killed it). Also, to answer your question, TOO is pronounced as T O O and stands for Ten Oriented Orchestra.

I am a bit confused as to how to feel about Road to Kingdom. Like you said, vocals not being something that counts in these performances strip certain groups of their strenghts, but then again the participating groups have a fairly unique chance to put up a show that they normally wouldn't have with the restrictions of the music shows. I would also prefer there being nob-biased judges. BtoB is actually the oldest group in Kingdom. They debuted in 2012 while iKon debuted in 2015. Great reaction!

I also really enjoyed TOO's performance in this episode. You mentioned Hwarang and I don't know the reference you made, but in case you weren't aware it was basically a group of pretty flower boy warriors in Korean history. (If you are aware opps lol) Honestly watching the boyz get worried about where they would rank in the competition was always funny to me, because it seemed so obvious as an audience member that they were miles ahead of the competition. (I'm a pentagon stan out of all these groups so literally no shade to any of the others. I love them all. I might even like this lineup more than kingdom's) I think someone already mentioned Pentagon did a good bit of live vocals, but I think like you mentioned it's a big part of who they are as performers. I really loved the rtk groups because they all had a sense of theatricalness to them. I think Kingdom might have a bit of a different vibe, maybe more intense. I saw the introduction stages for kingdom (won't say anything that would spoil them for you) and I think your boys Stray Kids did very well. I think they have the ability to be top three throughout the competition. I'm an Ateez stan so I'll always be a little biased but I'm going to try to stay neutral when judging the performances. Excited to see how you will like the performances they do next on rtk. Sucks we have to go through eliminations first though. Eliminations are trash and now that I know the groups better it will be even worse.

Are those introductory stages worth reacting to? I was thinking about watching all of em but idk if they're substantial enough

Rain Sparks

The introductory stages are kind of like the 60 (or was it 90?) second performances they had at the beginning of road to kingdom. If you plan to watch Kingdom I'm pretty sure they'll be included in the first episode if you would prefer to save it or don't have time. Overall, I think all six stages combined would be like 12ish minutes? I really enjoyed Stray Kids, Ateez, and The Boyz's. The other three were alright. Again could be personal preference. Honestly, it's up to you. I'd definitely watch you react to them if you choose to post it. But I think the really cool stages are definitely yet to come. (All my opinion others might disagree with me lol!)

Also sorry I totally messed up in how I replied to this. I suck at technology lol

That verivery performance is one of my favourites from the whole show... DAMN they killed that!! Yeah, I'm still upset about the voting system as well... TOO literally had no chance of winning from the beginning which is just ridiculous. They did a fantastic job every single episode. I don't know about all groups, but pretty sure most choreos had the original choreo in it yes, but with lots of new choreo/new dance breaks in it as well! Also... snack ahead! Lmao, it wouldn't bother me one bit That painting choreo part by the Boyz was fucking incredible, I actually teared up for some reason?? That's SO cool wtf Oh no! Don't rule out the vocals completely! Remember: Pentagon is the only group that sang live the entire show. I totally agree that because of the way the voting works for this that yes the choreo/performance is (unfortunately) the only focus. Pentagon are basically a Mamamoo/Red Velvet vocal-based group. So are BTOB who are joining Kingdom. Like you said, they have almost no chance of winning, but that doesn't mean they're any worse (or better) than the other groups. I agree, I see no group competing against The Boyz in performance aspect, even on Kingdom. BTOB is actually the oldest group in Kingdom! As an atiny and a stay *only*, I actually preferred BTOB's en iKON's introduction stage the best! They were different from the rest, all the other performances kinda blended together for me. The Boyz came third for me personally.

Rain Sparks

The introductory stages were live streamed, so people could vote on the stages. M-Net then took down the life stream, and is trying to keep it from being on the internet. However, you can find it if you really try hard enough. At least I did. So, I assume they plan on putting it in the first episode but also needed people to vote so they could move on with the show.

I would say, the lack of 'appreciation' for vocals and stage commandship is exacerbated by the fact that there is no live audience. So it becomes focused on conceptual based show since it is mainly enjoyed on TV I really really hope that they can give some crowd for Kingdom. I feel sad for BtoB, iKON and Stray Kids since they are such show stealer through their showmanship

Yeah, I hate the voting system, and I hate how it's all choreo/production based. The Boyz are great at that, for sure, but it's a very specific game to play and not the forte of the other 6, though some of them visibly challenged themselves and got fantastic results as well. I mean, this version of Photo is one of the best things I've ever seen and I don't even like Verivery much in general...! And yeah, that Reveal/Catching Fire performance was absurdly amazing :D

ik these r so old, but i still wanna contribute, when talking about live vocals, the boyz would still excel in my opinion, their vocals are very good,, maybe im a bit biased cuz they're my ult group but i think it would only upgrade their performances on road to kingdom personally

KpopPrince

Their choreos for these shows are so demanding it'd be tough to do live vocals!
