A personality archetype seen in some anime. It's kind of similar to the concept of a bimbo. And like with the word bimbo, there's basically zero consensus on what it actually means. But a gyaru character tends to be young, confident, vain, sexually promiscuous and/or demanding, and pursues a faux-western, often ever so slightly "punk" fashion sensibility. Interestingly, the word gyaru is itself a distortion of the english word "gal" or "girl". One could speculate that its formation was at least partially inspired by Japanese perceptions of the eccentricities of western women.
