Hello! I'm sorry that it's been a month since my last post on Patreon. As you can tell by visiting my blog, I've been quite busy over the past 2 weeks!

Throughout 2023, I made small amounts of progress on Amai's Befriend/Betray stealth mission. The characters were designed, the environment was blocked out with simple placeholder models, and animations were created to facilitate new gameplay mechanics for traversing the environment (climbing, jumping, etc).

I won't spoil the story of the mission, but I'll say that it involves infiltrating a "Rival Bakery" and obtaining something from one of the rooms.

There's a statement that I often quote when talking about stealth games: "The fun of a stealth game is figuring out how to get from point A to point B without getting spotted." I believe that the more options the player has for getting from point A to point B, the better. In the case of Amai's stealth mission, there will be 4 separate ways to enter the bakery - and 2 of them will require the player to make use of buildings that are adjacent to the bakery.

Recently, an absolutely phenomenal 3D artist finished modeling one of those adjacent buildings - and I'm so thrilled with the result that I'd like to share it with you today! Please check out the above video!

You can probably tell what kind of environment it is, but just in case, I'll spell it out: It's a construction site. By climbing to the top of the building and moving some objects around, it will be possible to move a plank into a position that makes it possible for the player to jump from the construction site to the rooftop of the bakery.

Because jumping straight to the rooftop of the bakery is the fastest way to reach your goal, I can't let it be too easy. You'll have to pickpocket a key from a security guard to unlock a gate and gain access to the construction site, and there might be a few more security guards walking around inside of the construction site, as well.

You may notice that the buildings in the background of the video are extremely simple in nature; they don't even have textures! Don't worry, the final version won't look like that - that's just the "block out" version of the environment. Those solid-color cubes simply mark where the *real* building models will be placed in the final version of the level.

You'll also notice that this video features a completely new music track. That's right - instead of simply re-using the same music for every stealth mission, each stealth mission will have a unique track.

There are also two more things I'd like to share, as well: Renders of two of the characters who will be featured in this level. The bakery's owner, and the bakery's chef. They have chosen a gothic theme for their business, and wear attire that matches the theme. You'll be able to find them in the "Attachments" section of this post.

I'm extremely excited to fully dive into work on Amai and implement her Befriend/Betray stealth mission, along with everything else about her week! (However, I won't begin working on her until I'm sure I've fixed all of the critical / game-breaking bugs that were present in the Custom Mode update. If tonight's update doesn't resolve all game-breaking bugs, then hopefully I'll have achieved that goal within the next few days.)

By the way - the construction site environment and the bakery owner/chef were not created for free by a volunteer; the 3D artist who created them was paid for his time and work. I was only able to pay him thanks to YOUR Patreon donations. So, everything you see here in this post was only made possible because of YOU and YOUR generosity and support! Thank you very much!!!

I hope that, in the future, I can continue to work with this incredible 3D artist on the future rivals' befriend/betray environments, as well!

I hope that you enjoy this preview of the construction site and the bakery owners!

Thank you for supporting the development of Yandere Simulator!

Im Soooo excited for the update 😍

WWE Jay Gaming

Just by looking at this im already terrified to see how difficult and hard Megami’s mission would be. Cause i already know Amai’s is gonna be a pain just by the looks of it

LacunaMoon

Looks fun, you did a good job!

Sims4Kiwi

I love the owner and baker, they look really cute!

Weeataku

This is a really clever mission. I already love the idea

M A

I LOVE IT! I’m assuming there’ll be construction workers everywhere that we’ll have to avoid.. but difficulty makes it even more exciting, I can’t wait!

Benjamin

Ik this isn’t the place to ask this but I see the place where people used to ask questions are missing. But for the remodeling of the 1980s students is everything on this doc (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eRzO7q4T8GfcOr9kP2CBxVBM2eFpbNDXnCXuFkSdbkQ/edit) still a go like moving study kun a and b to the art club and the hair colors u are proposing for each club.

Benjamin

Yeah sorry English isn’t my strong suit. I was trying to ask do u still plan on following that doc for the 80s student remodel. Specifically like putting Study Kun A and B in the Art Club.

YandereDev

I do plan to follow that doc in the near future, as soon as the last remaining hair models are finished. (Most of them are done at this point.) As for Study-kun A and B, I haven't yet decided exactly what I will do with them, but it's likely that neither of them will be a rival suitor in the future.

MikasaSweet

you have never once disappointed me. im very excited for the things that are out and the things to come. keep going YandereDev!

Cynically Naive

I spy a familiar character Ayano is following. I am impressed with the progress, YanDev. Keep up the good work.

Benjamin

Ok cool. I’m definitely interested in seeing the tomboy hairs u want to give the sports club girl and martial arts club girls.

This looks so sick man! Can't wait to play it when you finish, keep up the great work.

Woah ! I have a Wario Ware nostalgia from this :D The owner reminds me of Ashley. I’m impressed by the current development. Actually I’ve been wondering if you really took a break 3 months ago. Though you’re back in business, don’t forget to take a day off once a week. It won’t do if you overwork yourself again.

YandereDev

Although I'm also a fan of WarioWare, I wasn't thinking about Ashley specifically when this character was designed. The only instructions I gave the character designer were "Make them look evil!" so she went with this goth look. Personally, I'm really happy with it! I've mentioned it before, but I'll re-iterate it here: during my 3-month hiatus, I didn't completely abstain from anygame development whatsoever; I just worked on the game way less than I usually do in pursuit of a better work-life balance.

Skuld

Really ? Well it’s funny that she went straight for the gothic lolita for depicting an "evil bakery". It does fit ! I’m digging that little devil aesthetic. I don’t know if you have a va for her yet, but I can’t wait to see her in flesh. She seems like a fun antagonist ! Ah sorry about that, I actually became a patreon this afternoon so I didn’t read your later posts yet when I wrote my comment 😅 Good to know anyway

Donnie

I'm dying of excitement to be able to play it!

Sim

This looks very promising. Good job!
