To point things out if you didn't noticed,we already seen Star Compass that Vueko girl had-Riko was carrying it around since episode 1 of s1 and boasting about it mysteriousness, dropped in first layer in episode 4. Coincidence they both had it? Also during scene on Bathysphere when Reg was wondering about Bondrewd's true goal, Nanachi recalled Bondrewd words to them when he received his blessed furry body: "Preparations for next 2000 years is nearing completion. Let us witness the dawn together." The things relating to this number were already popped out a few times before,like Abyss being discovered 1900+ye ago,ancients windmills on 2nd layer being 2k,4k or even 6k years old and some other stuff like praying skeletons and birthday death disease the we saw in episode 12. Another important plot hook to remember.

I will admit that I'm aware of the praying skeletons that are spaced out at nearly two-thousand-year increments. Unfortunately, that information comes from the manga and hasn't been expressed in the anime. So it hasn't been something I could share with the rest of the cast without spoiling them to it. We did see the birthday disease, but it really hasn't been elaborated on that much. And now you are just making me imagine some time vortex where the star compass falls down the abyss in episode three and goes back in time to season 2's beginning. :-P
