Sometimes the comic you want to write is simply the comic you want to read.

What is this: Imagine a fantasy world where monsters and beasts were real and monster hunters had to hunt them without plot armor.

Your prey may be bigger, faster, stronger, possess strange magical powers or maybe all of them and you are just human, perhaps a skilled one but still human after all, with human-like reflexes and strength. What would our heroes do to tip the odds to their favor?

Pros: A story you want to read is usually the kind of story you'll enjoy writing. The fantasy setting is a tried-and-true formula who is always popular and the twist of being "realistic" give it a unique tone.

Cons: Fantasy is an saturated genre and I'm not sure if it being realistic is enough to catch people interest. Most people seen pretty happy with their heroes one-shotting dragons with their longswords so why bother? Plus I'd need to make kind the research on both lore, hunting techniques and art in general to pull this off.

Sometimes it's good to do things and set them on a shelf for future projects, to crystalize the idea out of your head and into something tangible, to free up room for another idea to grow. Maybe some day you'll have time / resources / inspiration to reach back up to that shelf, dust off and add some more to this. and then put it back and get on with the rest of the things.

This reminds me a bit of the pitch I've read for the Goblin Slayer manga...

Yup... but depending of your references I could be "copying" Witcher, or even the game Monster Hunter. It's almost impossible to be 100% original. This said there is a reason this one is on the backburner... Goblin Slayer is a tough goal to beat.

Is funny you mention it. I'm currently working on a tabletop roleplaying setting that involves hunting megabeast in the Han Dinasty China (about 100BC).
