Just wanted to give everyone that supported The Cape another big thank you, what a fun little series to do, especially at this time when a little trip to a kind and functional world is a nice break and contrast from our own. I'm so happy with how it all turned out and for all the kind words and messages I got about it. Both myself and Gerry thank you from the bottom of our hearts! 💕

So now to get specific about what changes and content to expect here!

First, I'll be leaving everything here as is for another few weeks to let folks that haven't seen the Cape get a chance to check it out. After that, the episodes will only be available on Itch. So grab them now if you haven't yet!

Around mid-November I'll be converting this Patreon page to the Cape Kabu project page, and I'll be changing the tiers as well. The Kabu project will be a little slower to update than the Cape, so it will be cheaper per month. I'm thinking a $3 and a 5$ tier.

In late November/Early December I hope to have the first big update to Cape Kabu done. I'll be posting it here first and then publicly soon after to get some more interest and support for the project. But subsequent updates will be released here first, and then publicly much later on.

Speaking of the first update! Expect some new stuff to be added. Right now I'm working on five opponents, each with three defeat images and several in game portraits. I'm also working on variable AIs wherein some opponents willingness to be risky will change as the match progresses. You will also now be ranked after each match! And there will be a gallery!

Images in the gallery will be unlocked as you play, not by defeating opponents. How fast or slow they are unlocked will be determined by how well you play, as the rank you get in the match determines the amount of progress awarded toward unlocking the next image. However, you will always get some progress for playing, so even a defeat and a bad rank will still get you a little closer to unlocking the next image.

There will also be an achievements gallery, in which new, unique images will be featured! These will be unlocked by things like number of games played, reaching certain totals of wins or losses, etc. This gallery will probably not be implemented in the first update but hopefully soon after.

There will also be a Patron gallery in the game! I mentioned before that Patrons will have a chance to have their character in the game, those that are chosen will be a special opponent that plays normally but gives you bonus points after the match toward unlocking gallery images. They will be slightly rarer to encounter as opponents than the main cast. Patron opponents will have 2 defeat images. Images in the patrons gallery will be unlocked in the same manner as the main gallery.

Besides Cape Kabu, I will also be putting any and all Willy Bear stuff here as well. This will mostly be illustrations and short comics, but further down the line we hope to make special one off Willy Bear Beach VN episodes, which will be included here as well.

I feel like I should mention that the main couple reason Kabu will be a little slower and more casual to update compared to the Cape. First one is that the monthly schedule for the Cape involved  a lot of crunching and overworking to get them out on time. While I'm happy with The Cape, it also would have been nice to be able to take a little more time on everything to make it that much better. There's also some more complicated programming involved in Kabu compared to the Cape. Not having a strict schedule is simply going to help us make a better product. Although we plan to have new content and updates for Kabu approx every two months.
The second reason is because I'll also be working on another VN project at the same time as I'm working on Kabu. That project is called THRESHOLDVN and is by Team Pasiphae, of which I'm the main artist! This is an extremely different VN than The Cape or WBB, it's a sci-fi drama and it has a sort of game element where you are finding clues and passcodes to access scenes and records. If you like VNs and sci-fi, give it a look! The first update for it should be late this month. https://www.patreon.com/thresholdvn

I think that's all for now! Thanks again to all and looking forward to making a lot of fun stuff for yall!! ❤️

Out of curiosity, are there plans to have some of the other WBB/Notes established characters in Kabu, or do you plan to have them be all new characters?

Really looking forward to see what's coming! Just one idle question: since we're talking about one game and not a series of separate VN episodes, will an "update" involve re-downloading the whole game, will it just be a patch that goes into our existing copy of the game?

WillyBearBeach

Definitely planning to have characters from the Cape in Kabu! A bit of a spoiler but Graham will be in the first update :3

WillyBearBeach

That depends! If you download it to play, you will download a new game package for the new updates, then just copy it to the location where you have it on your computer. You shouldn't lose any gallery progress or anything like that in this process, it will just add the new content. If you play on the web version, which will be set up on Itch when the first update is ready, you should just load it up like normal and the new content will be there, and so will your gallery progress.

With the patron version, are you selecting people at random? lottery? maybe something else along those lines?

WillyBearBeach

I will open a submission form and look through the entries, choosing all the characters that I think will be appropriate for the game. Basically characters that I don't think I can portray well will be omitted from consideration. Then I'll choose randomly from there!

Typically the characters you draw have very natural fur/scale/etc. colors (excluding the dragons obviously, lol) is unnatural coloring going to be a disqualifying factor for submitted characters? My fursona doesn't have any of that, but I'm curious!

You are right I do follow an aesthetic, and especially for this game I want the art in it to be rly solid. So I'm frankly staying in a comfort zone for it, stuff I know I'm best at and that ppl (myself included) like. But, there is some wiggle room here, particularly w some more striking color use, bc I already have added a sort of weird opponent into the game (no spoilers). So when I set up the submissions I will be asking how much ppl are willing to compromise on their characters, perhaps creating a sort of Cape version of their character. I hope it doesn't sound strict! I just like to keep a consistent look & vibe. But I'm open to working smth out.

You're doing a so nice work with these VN. But what about the rest ? The luck of fool is over or will it be back in a while ?

WillyBearBeach

Thank you! I do want to return to TLoF one day, but I need to fix a lot of things with it. There's some story issues and inconsistencies etc. Threshold was ready to go and Kabu is just a game, so I decided to focus on those projects for now. 😊
