For context, Chenle never lived in the dorms. His family is wealthy, so as soon as he moved to Korea they purchased a house there. Chenle was only 14 at the time his family didn't want him there on his own so some of his relatives moved to Korea with him to take care of him. He debuted only 2 months after getting to Korea, so he didn't have a way to communicate with the korean members except Jisung who was made it his mission to teach Chenle Korean and ended up picking up Mandarin too. Due to the distance of where he lives and also the lack of ability to communicate properly the first 2-3 years of their career there wasn't as many opportunities where he could as close to Haechan, Jaemin, and Jeno in comparison Mark who spoke English with, Renjun who's also Chinese and Jisung who decided Chenle was going to be his bff. He's soooo close to them now though. I think the Pandemic helped his Korean get better quicker and he could play games and contact them comfortably, so they've gotten a lot closer the past 4 years. Now that they're adults they have more time together as they also have a lot more work in comparison to when they were minors. NCT are so transparent about these things and it's honestly a breath of fresh air. Since they share these thoughts comfortably you can see the sincerity of their friendship now.
