Ant Hive (Patreon)

The first drawing is from years ago, the second is from yesterday. Even before these I tried drawing the ant hive as a classic "ant hill" but it felt almost too much like the bee hive, but boring and on the ground. So i inverted it, making it the downwards, earthy counterpart to the bee hive. They're the two major political powers in the city so it feels cool for them to be visual opposites. 

Although the first drawing is confusing and I clearly just made it in a few minutes to satisfy myself, looking between the two, I feels much more grand and dscending than the friendly village I just drew. Somewhere between these two there is a perfect ant hive. 

I also definitely need to emphaze the fact that the complex continues deep underground, which is the coolest part of any ant hill.
