Would bip even be able to murder talita in her sleep? I mean, maybe they could hack into the station's life support systems or something, but that would probably be picked up on by whoever's maintaining that system pretty soon, right?

How are AI's paid when they are employed? What value is currency to them?

Generally, they are paid with regular currency. Money and assets are power for them the same way it is for squishy sapients, if they want mobility options, money for hobbies, and personal agency (like Calcery choosing to leave Dirtball and work on a ferret ship) they need to have the funds or assets necessary to do so. If they aren't being compensated fairly for their work, that's legally slavery under general galactic law. Sapient A.I. are persons and not paying them for their labor can entrap them.
