Avian Sky Dancing (Patreon)

All sapients in RttS have cultural dances, but avians have the unique advantage when when it comes to movement in the air. Aerial dancing without props is commonplace, but routines often include the use of trailing smoke or ribbons. Flying with ribbons in particular is seen as a feat of both beauty and endurance-- flying is athletically challenging enough as it is, adding a heavy, dragging ribbon to pull into pleasing curls through the sky is even more exhausting.

Unlike what humans would typically think of as dancing, musical accompaniment for aerial dancing is rare-- keeping a beat in flight is difficult to do in a way noticeable to viewers on the ground. The focus is much more on the physical prowess of the dancers and the creation of pleasing movement and shapes. It can be thought of more like a fireworks display than a tango. In fact, some avian dance routines include fireworks, which is definitely not safe, but definitely looks cool.
