Better Call Saul is coming to an end soon! I'd love to have you guys choose what the next "bigger" television series you'd be interested in watching with me.

Making me choose between Succession and Ozark is actually cruel omg

Ozark, without hesitation!

Tony Ivic

Hey james, just wondering when you complete BCS are you then doing s2 of The Bear and a new show?.

Elle Durden

Succession PLEASE! There is not enough (qualified) people reacting to it.

Jon Exler

Appreciate you putting Succession on here, brother. I really would die for the kind of high quality art it displays. My brothers and sisters of Patreon PLEASE vote for Succession

Tom McTernan

Wow, all of these choices are amazing, but it’s gotta be The Wire. Absolute GOAT show in my mind.

Jarrod Wild

I'd like to pick both Sopranos and The Wire!

Owen Young

Dude The Sopranos would be so worth your time. I would t steer you wrong, that show is a masterpiece. I watched it for the first time last year and it’s stuck with me ever since. James Gandolfini is one of the best actors I’ve ever seen. The writing is surreal and the show even had a surreal element to it, it’s not even really a “Mob show” it’s about a man managing two families, one criminal and one normal. And the deep inner workings of why he is who he is, everything. It’s pristine man.

NexX

Would rather you watch season 2 of the bear first before starting another series so you are caught up when season 3 arrives

Jason Cooley

The Sopranos is responsible for all the great television we watch today.

Anonymous

Ozark is a great choice if you liked better Call Saul

Brittyn Lindsey

The Sopranos is an absolute must!!!

cindygrape

Voted for the sopranos and the wire because I haven't seen them and this is the perfect way to finally make myself watch haha!

Shaun

We need to get the show PREACHER from AMC on this list. It’s basically the next show the writers from Better Cal Saul went on to after. It is 4 seasons and is based on a comic like the Walking Dead was. Only this show involves Heaven and Hell and has a really good cast and story.

Nizate

Ayyy shit it’s close! Sopranos a classic fucking chill. Pardon my French I got a little carried away. Lol.

john francis

im going with the underdogs, james. no matter what you land on, your reactions are gunna be LIT 🔥

Anonymous

Seeing you watch the last season of Sopranos is going to be so good

Anonymous

I got to say that Sopranos is pretty uneven - many good episodes but it does sag at some points. If it was just the first three seasons I'd vote for it. Ozark is fun, but it is not the same caliber as the rest here. My vote is for the Wire, that is really the only thing here that can compare to BB+BCS. It is not visually as interesting, but the writing and characters are the best that ever appeared on the screen.

Chuck

Would love to see you react to Ozark.....and Succession 😭

Sabra Lee

Every one of these is great but The Wire and The Sopranos whew wee

jamesvscinema

The Bear & Mr. Robot share the same schedule :) When BCS is done, I plan on starting these series. The Bear and Mr. Robot will continue on their own

Jon Exler

Watching Succession with James is going to be the delight of my 20s

George

When is The Bear continuing??? Really want to see you experience the chaos of season 2

Owen Young

That’s crazy because I think the last few sopranos seasons are top teir. I feel like it starts to feel more like a BB/BCS show around season 4 and on, and it’s still so good for the first three seasons, it’s just a little less dark.

Anonymous

I’m torn on this as Sopranos is god tier tv to me, but I think you would have much more meat to chew on with Succession

UndeadDesk

In my opinion Ozark was a very good show. Like unexpectedly good. Untill the last season. Kinda spoiled it for me

Sebastian

SUCCESSION!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous

Be a baller and do Sopranos AND The Wire. These shows aired concurrently in the early 2000s anyway, so I think it's appropriate.

Anonymous

Cool. Still not in for watching rich white people get mad at each other over money or whatever - there’s enough suffering in the world already.

Anonymous

@Owen, to be honest it has been like 15 years since I last watched Sopranos, so entirely possible that I would see it differently now - you may absolutely be right. @UndeadDesk, I enjoyed Ozark a lot - it is fun, but I just don't think it has anything particularly interesting to say. Which is OK, not all shows have to, but BB+BCS absolutely did - that is why I am putting it in a different league. The Wire has more to say than any show ever in my opinion, but it is not visually crafted with as much talent as later seasons of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

Tringard

I've wanted to watch The Wire for a long time, would be interesting to see with you

Anonymous

I heavily suggest checking out the short lived TV series Firefly (only 14 episodes) because it is so underrated

Darkest Knight

Damn these are all great options! However for a more Ai based show check out person of interest

Anonymous

Man twin peaks would be awesome! If there is some way to skip most of season 2

cheech

Every show on the poll is fantastic and worth watching but I really wish you’d try Twin Peaks. It would take a certain type of reactor to be able to translate that show for viewers and I believe you can do it. You’re knowledgeable and relatable enough it won’t seem like a chore. Not to mention it’s one of the most influential, important and unique tv shows of all time

Anonymous

All bangers, but if I may suggest another one, The Hauting Of Hill House would be awesome

KristyAMF

humbly suggest adding Preacher to this list, that or Last Man on Earth, feel like no one has done a rewatch or first watch of those it'd be cool to get your take.

Andy Luke

Even with your insight The Wire would be a challenge but why put off the show that broke television? MCNULTY!

berbs

Same. Last mann on earth gets a vote from me.

Jon Exler

Sopranos is too long gang. Succession is just 4 seasons of ten episodes. Allow Succession to prevail I beg 😭😂

Jon Exler

I'm afraid you missed the point of the show, darling. Perhaps you did not finish?

Anonymous

Ozark is EXTREMELY overrated. People compare it to BB and BCS all the time just because of its adult nature, but it’s so bleak, depressing, humorless, and nearly every character is detestable and unlikable… I honestly don’t know if you’d enjoy it.

Kaitlin

Agreed. It’s tedious and not even the amazing Laura Linney could make it work. I was watching the show for one supporting character because I loved the actress even though the show felt like homework. Once they left the show, I quit watching. Did not care what happened.

Kaitlin

I mainlined Sex and the City, and Oz when Blockbuster was still open. They were a good balance. 😂

Kaitlin

There’s got to be more Mad Men fans here! I know it’s a white people show but it has its merits!

Sonia Deepak

Oh man The Wire or Succession?

a.n.w

SUCCESSION SQUAD RISE UP

Anonymous

THE WIRE

Kaitlin

Any Veep or Insecure fans? HBO Comedy was killing it with those shows.

Anonymous

Yeah and it’s basically a western themed live action anime. Firefly was too good for this world I think.

ChloeGameDev

I hope you'll consider Mad Men again in the future, despite it's poor performance in this poll. T_T It's so underrated among people under 50, hardly anyone reacts to/analyzes it!

alaskan mitch

Succession clears im afraid

Jason Cooley

Are you kidding? It’s in my top three, watched it as it aired. It was historic. But its quality went down almost immediately, it was cancelled quickly and no other shows followed its lead successfully.

Kaitlin

And it’s much more compelling than Breaking Bad on rewatch.

Simson Ward

Whoa. This is a STACKED list. I haven't seen Sopranos or Succession. But I'd love to watch along for the first time as well with you James. Also, I haven't seen Wires season 1, 2, and 5. Seen parts of 3. And I haven't seen the last season of Ozark. Oh man this is gonna be fun

Simson Ward

Six Feet Under! As for a future request. Classic HBO series that was winning awards along with Sopranos in the early 2000s. Yeah, HBO was killing it in those days

eoin

The wire!! Come on

Andy Luke

I gotta ask you. If every time Snotboogie would grab the money and run away why'd you even let him in the game?

Anonymous

You are going to looove Succession I promise that

Jimmie V

I'll take season 2 over any modern prestige television (and really, it's only the middle section of season 2 that's weak... are we forgetting the reveal in it and the finale?). Season 3 on the other hand is undeniably up to any Lynch fan's standards of amazing. Episode 8 alone is better than anything I've seen on TV since.... well, episode 22 of season 2 of Twin Peaks. The point though is that prestige television started with Twin Peaks. It was the first serialized storyline in primetime and the first real post-modern show in general. The Sopranos followed that lead, they just took decades to catch up with David Lynch and when TP returned, it was, and still is, lightyears ahead of everything else. The only thing else that even comes close is Lars von Trier's The Kingdom.

Andy Luke

The Wire, folks, encompasses The Sopranos two families narrative and so much more. It's about people everywhere. Your city or town. The institutions you've dealt with. Its got poverty and power. Manual laborers and desk flyers. It has a sprawling cast of top tier actors, more black than white. It doesn't look as pretty as Sopranos, but that's kind of the point. Its professionally directed, scored and written by some of the best modern crime novelists. The Sopranos is great but The Wire is unlike anything you've seen, or will see for a while. This is the show that broke television. Vote for The Wire.

Anonymous

i hope you do the sopranos cause i am just finishing the show up but you would also like mad men and succesion so

prot180

I think you would love The Wire.

Jay Davis

Wow....I expected Ozark to do better. The writing/acting/storylines are just as good, if not better, than Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

Tom Hoffman

Twin Peaks is one I have been saying for a long time. I had to vote for The Sopranos from these options though.

Jay Davis

Gotta disagree. It doesn't have the humor of BB/BCS, but the characters and writing are excellent. There's only one character that I didn't like on Ozark. On rewatch, I would skip all his scenes. For Breaking Bad, I'd skip about 90% of everything that had to do with Walt's family.

Taylor Olsoy

Succession and sopranos is so close we should have a runoff vote between the 2.

Tom Hoffman

Soprano’s would be a banger. As others said in the future consider doing Twin Peaks! I would love to get a good quality reaction to it!

Marvelous Dolcy

So glad the Wire and the Sopranos is on here. But The Wire edges it for me

Anonymous

The Wire actually predates Sopranos and, if The Wire was not successful, then we would not have gotten Oz and then Sopranos

Anonymous

it is an amazing show. The writing is so crisp, the jokes are off-center, and the dinner table scenes are amazing. We all know how much James loves dinner table scenes.

Jon Exler

We are sooo close! C'mon Succession gang

Anonymous

😭Fargoooooo

Anonymous

You know the sopranos is the obvious choice.

Jon Exler

Sopranos runs too long for a show that is up and down brother. I love it but, next round! Please I beg you brother

Chuck

I'd also disagree. I think he would definitely enjoy it, especially the cinematography. I saw a couple episodes the other day and thought about him reacting to the filmmaking aspect of it.

jakey James

I just started watching The Sopranos so if you start that'll be perfect

Tetley

The Wire. Has to be. It's the OG of the golden age of TV.

Anonymous

Just yesterday I finished watching Mad Men, what a fun coincidence. It's awesome to know it's on your radar :D I'd love for you to experience the show. Despite winning multiple awards, I think in the broader universe of TV shows it's still fairly underrated. It's truly incredible and very worth everyone's while! My vote is on both Succession & Mad Men <3

Kenneth thomas

Sopranos and The Wire bro i'm so psyched. I hope you do both !!!!

Linda

Northern Exposure and Twin Peaks would be fun.

Spencer Wattamaniuk

Yeah, I just don't see the big deal with Ozark, not to say I didn't enjoy it or anything but it's certainly no BCS/BB. It tried to mimic the Breaking Bad/Sopranos style of protagonist but it just doesn't really work despite how amazing Jason Bateman is. It's bleakly cold, humourless, and carried by its actors putting in insane performances. The blue colour grading in the cinematography can get tiring after a while and some of the writing is just kinda lazy and really loose. I'd say it's worth a fair shot, but I don't see some of the comparisons to other Prestige TV shows it's drawing.

M.

Sopranos/Wire are so far beyond these other shows in t erms of directing and writing. I really hope Succession doesnt win, it's criminally overrated.

Anonymous

can someone tell me if succession is worth getting into? i have heard from so many people that its really good but it looks boring to me honestly but im willing to give any show a chance but i just want to know what makes it sooo good without spoiling it

Legion

You gotta watch The Wire to get a specific joke in an Always Sunny episode

Tetley

Both great shows at a time when great shows were few and far between!

Tetley

We gotta get Curb Your Enthusiasm on this list James!

Elle Durden

Cmon people! Succession has only 4 season, James will go through them so fast, he can do Sopranos after!

Jason Cooley

The Wire came out in 2002, Oz in 1997, Sopranos 1999. I'd say we wouldn't have The Wire without Oz or The Sopranos.

Anonymous

Succession robbed better call Saul it’s gotta be sopranos or the wire. How is succession even in this

UNC

Succession let’s go! Totally fine with the Wire or Sopranos but would love another top tier Succession reaction!

Toe

One season into sopranos and I gotta say succession CLEARS . Tho maybe I’ll bite my words when I get to later seasons but season 1 of succession is easily better than season 1 of sopranos by MILES

Elle Durden

Power through the first half of S1. By episodes 6/7 you will understand the hype. The characters are horrible in an Its Always Sunny kinda of way. The writing is amazing, the dialogue is pristine, the acting is outstanding, seriously, the characters are rotten to their core but somehow you feels sorry for them, its kinda mind boggling. Its hilarious and cringe as fuck. You die a million deaths of second hand embarrassment, its painful but its worth it. Its delicious to watch the characters suffer lol. And the plot is unpredictable. Its 100% character driven, the family relationship drama is the core of the show. Its very quick, there is no wasted scene or dialogue, everything pays off eventually. Turn on subtitles or you'll miss a lot of iconic whispers/background lines. I hope you check it out. I think its worth a try.

Alex Thrailkill

Yes please, the two seasons he has left are the weakest to me but they definitely have their moments. And the filmmaking is still top-tier.

Anonymous

I thought we were gonna get Curb Your Enthusiasm?

Kara

I like the Sopranos but I think Succession would be the better show for James to react to atm.

Spencer Wattamaniuk

Because it's one of the best shows of the decade already? Personal taste or not it's nearly universally acclaimed.

Anonymous

Ozark is so underrated imo, I loved it and would definitely watch again through James, hardly anyone else has reacted to/analysed it that I can find

Anonymous

I forget how much these polls matter. Lol I’ve only seen succession of these shows so that’s my vote

Mason Dane

curb would be amazing & even sons of anarchy if u haven’t seen it!!! but as far as this vote succession or sopranos will be great

Anonymous

I could agree on season 4, but season 5 was a masterpiece in my eyes. 🙂

Bd Blake

Wire > Sporanos @me

Jon Exler

Succession is the 2nd GOAT imo behind BB. I wont speak on Succession because I dont want anything spoiled. Very character driven show with SUPERB writing

JL Green

I am from Baltimore, MD so I have a strong love/hate relationship with this series. On one hand to say the show suggest my city consists of nothing but drug dealers, good and bad cops and corrupt politicians is sickening at best. On the other hand it is one of the most compelling, intellectual, emotional and strongly written series in the history of television. Bottom line, it's the best of all the series listed.

Anonymous

Ooh I know wrong listing but please review Blue Eye Samurai and the Brothers Sun. Each only eight episodes but both renewed.

Matthew Reyes

I love all shows but i actually want sopranos the least!

Matthew Reyes

I’m an outsider who’s watched the show many times, and i never got the feeling they were saying all of Baltimore was like that.

Sebastian

sad day for the Con Heads :(

JL Green

I understand your feelings. All I can say is you'd have to be there. There were even areas that were filmed that I grew up as a child, like the church location so this was my personal life experiences.

Jon Exler

This is a travesty 😭 I will be praying for a Succession miracle

Matthew Reyes

Also can’t believe Mad Men has the least amount of votes. Between the writing, cinematography and acting he would LOVE Mad Men more than any other reactor on the internet could.

Walt

Even though I agree The Wire is better…yes, The Sopranos is that good

Lily

SUCCESSION! SUCCESSION! SUCCESSION!

Anonymous

I pray you veto the poll and go for Succession regardless James

Owen Young

Don’t veto the poll the sopranos will be worth it and he’ll get to succession guys, I’m sure it’ll win out the next poll

Alex Thrailkill

I’m a big S3 guy, and seasons 1 and 2 are juuuuust below it for me. That could change on a rewatch though. I was kind of let down with how it all wrapped up in S5, especially with Munch because I found him to be the most interesting character all season. The Linda episode and the second to last episode were tremendous though.

Dani

Sopranos or the wire. The others are truly great but have nothing on the other two. Jealous you get to experience these for the first time.

Dani

I’d still take a bad Sopranos episode over all of succession and I adore succession. All that to say, pls pick Sopranos James!

Tetley

Oz was the first show that made me sit up and go sheezus ... TV can be like this!? Such a great show. So many captivating and humane villains.

Anonymous

They are all great. I hope you see them all eventually.

Dani

Succession is a soulless masterpiece but I’d rather watch Tony eat for 10 seasons

N

Succession then sopranos come on guys

Andy Luke

The Wire Season 5 has issues but there's no bad episodes there.

Andy Luke

I'm lost. You're not thinking of The Slhield? Oh. Has it to do with Lester and Charlie?

Lily

when does this poll end? we gotta rake up all those succession votes 🙏🏽

Andy Luke

Yeah but Oz turns into Prisoner Cell Block H, the original.

Andy Luke

I dunno. But the follow movie is one of Whedons top moments and might still be underrated.

Andy Luke

The Wire down 9 points to lead from 5 a few hours ago. Goddammit McNulty. Anyone who'd like an entertaining pointer to how important this is, the creator of Black Mirror has a super 25 minute doc on YouTube all about it. https://youtu.be/ZLcquuO7sxg

M.

Being universally acclaimed doesn't mean something is good.

Anonymous

There are a lot of things in the TV show that are concluded in the film Serenity ... You have to see the Pilot of Firefly to hear Simon talk about River to get why he does what he does and the episode Out Of Gas (Ep 6) is an origin story of the crew and ship Plus there are the guest stars like Christina Hendricks years before she was on Mad Men

Haye Zeus

This is the most stressful poll

Martin Heron

I've voted for The Wire, but watching Succession in an election year? That'd be something.

Anonymous

SUCCESSION!! Love all of these shows, but Succession feels more urgent to watch, especially this year. The Sopranos and The Wire are fantastic, but can wait a few months.

Anonymous

The is the most intense poll so far omg! COME ON SUCCESSION GANG

Dani

It’d be the strategic pick given its recency and popular and awards acclaim, like the Bear.

Tetley

700+ votes! This has to be close to a record?

Jon Exler

Y'all should know James by now and know there would be much more for him to enjoy in Succession and not only that, it would also be better for the success of the main channel

Anonymous

sopranos would be fun! the fandom is a little annoying when it comes to discussion though, i find some people engage but others are just waiting to drop a quote and laugh at tony being racist. succession blows!

UNC

Succession cmon people! Lets rally tell your friends!

Anonymous

I really hope The Wire wins. That show is like the most important piece of television ever made. Made by former detectives, newspaper writers and etc. from Baltimore, they bring it to the small screen, in an authentic, almost documentary like fashion, while still being deep and shakespearian. A show about america, that is still relevant today, in it's deep dive into drug culture, homelessness, police, government, newspaper, docks and school system. What it has to say is both important, and relevant to this day. Such a powerful show.

Yours truly, Johnny Dollar

What I think really makes The Wire standout is that it really digs into the way institutions can atrophy or fail entirely, and it does it all by showing and not telling. There a lot of shows that can create compelling drama, but very few shows or films can really capture how these impersonal forces can affect everything.

John B Winters

Wow......seriously, any one of these would be great! Id probably have Ozark #5, but I really liked it too. But man, those other 4...

Jon Exler

Convince your friends to join the Patreon and vote for it. We must win brother

Jon Exler

Rally your friends to join the patreon and vote for Succession, we gotta get this dub

Anonymous

my brother I also avoided watching Succession out of spite bc it took awards that BCS was also nominated for, and then I watched it and holy shit it’s very funny and dark. try it you might like it

Legion

No, it's an episode of Always Sunny where the gang tries to win an award. There's a joke in there about The Wire that will fly over people's head if they haven't seen The Wire or know about how it never winning an Emmy

Anonymous

IF YOU DO THE SOPRANOS OR THE WIRE I WILL CRY OF HAPPINESS JAMES

James Edwards

Bruh, please.. The Wire is right there. Though... to be honest.. I haven't watched The Sopranos myself. This could be an opportunity to take this ride with you. But The WIRE man...

Tetley

Man there's some impassioned campaigning going on. Lot of people dying on their prestige TV hills. I'm over here dying on The Wire hill if anyone wants to join me. With Omar, Stringer, Avon ...

Cody Price

I highly recommend Yellowstone TV Series sometime. It’s kind of a mix between The Godfather and Ranching. Think you would really love it. Especially since I know you love nature and horses, and love crime dramas. Stars Kevin Costner, Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, and Cole Hauser. It is also written and directed by Taylor Sheridan.

Cody Price

Also, highly recommend Mayor of Kingston as well, which is filming Season 3 right now. It is an awesome crime drama starring Jeremy Renner in one of his best roles to date (Also, it’s a miracle to see that he back on set working after his amazing recovery from his horrific snow cat incident last year). The show is also written by Taylor Sheridan.

Anonymous

Bojack Horseman is the only answer. Most of these shows are great ( only seen about half of them) but Bojack is the most criminally underrated peice of art in the modern day. Please consider it

Jon Exler

Do not worry, Con-Heads we will not lose. Rally the troops

Jon Exler

James, this poll runs until Friday morning? Like until 11:59 of Thursday night? And is that in ET/CST/PST/MT?😂💀

Armchair Wizard

I just hope Sopranos wins. Very few reactors watch it. I know James would love it. Granted, he'd probably love any of these.

Mr TV Eye

Your comment got me interested cause I never took a look into Ozark. I now watched the first 3 episodes, and my question would be, is it a show that grows on you over time? Not to say it's bad, but it didn't really got me exited up until now, it didn't "clicked" for me yet.

Jay Davis

Good for you for giving it a chance! I think episode 1 is fantastic at setting everything up. I can completely understand episode 2 making you question "mehhh...is this really worth it?" Episode 3 starts the ball rolling again, and episode 4 is where you will know one way or the other whether you are in or not. There's a ton of "wtf!" moments in the show (the same feeling along the lines of in Breaking Bad .....spoilers ............ ... when Walt drove up out of nowhere and ran over the drug dealers ). People end up loving characters that you may hate at first, and the multiple "villains" each season all give the Gus vibes.

Anonymous

I don't watch tv or have a horse in this race, but keeping up with this poll is thrilling

Tom McTernan

So at what point do we realize that the only solution to the this race is to admit it’s a tie and that the only fair thing to do is to watch them all simultaneously, on three separate screens? 😂

Our boy James rakin in the 💸 on this poll. Well deserved. Over 800 votes is crazy

Sebastian

I honestly just wanna see James react to the Succession Theme

Kara

I thought that but it counts every vote in the multiple choice, so it's less than 800 people

Damn. Alright if succession wins then it’s rightly deserved even as a Wire fanboy I have to admit that came out of nowhere.

I agree with Jon in that it doesn’t really make sense. Succession is winning fair and square plus as Jon said people can vote for multiple options (heck I voted for both Succession and Ozark lol)

Anonymous

U succession fans are killing us sopranos fans 😂😂

Kara

I thought this when there was literally 1 or 2 votes in it, but Succession is a full 19 votes ahead of 2nd place now lol. it's over

Jon Exler

Lmao hey truthfully I think you guys are really gonna like it. I personally would consider it at the very least Top 5 in the GOAT conversation. It makes it all the better that we'll be watching with James too, he really is the best at this. I had watched Breaking Bad 4 times in its entirety before watching it again with James, and though you learn something new every time watching just by yourself - the stuff I was picking up on from and with James was just a whole other experience and I cant wait to see what he brings to Succession. This is really a big family of film lovers and so I think we will all enjoy it a lot

Anonymous

Nah I kid I love succession. It’s a fantastic show but the day James finally starts the sopranos is the first day of the rest of his life 😎🤟

Andy Luke

Did Succession just fly by The Wire and Sopranos in 24 hours? The Wire?

Andy Luke

Most def. Succession was trailing behind a little for most of the week with The Wire and Sopranos only 2-4 apart.

Matt

I need him to hum it to himself like he does the always sunny and better call saul themes

Reid Mclellan

Alright, the wire fans, pull your vote back for the sopranos, and then we'll return the favour for the next TV show poll 😀

At least a compromise, the way we're headed it looks like we're gonna be watching succession, and then we both lose

The Wire never claimed to represent all of Baltimore, it just simply focused on the city's underbelly.

Very good point SP. As I said earlier, it's a you had to be there situation. I have seen more than 90% of the locations including the church which the pastor was wrongly accused of holding drugs located literally feet from my childhood home. The upside was how cool it was to see the locations, but also seeing the stigma of criminal activity forever attached to those majority Black neighborhoods via film for the sake of telling stories of urban blight.

As much as I want him to watch the Wire and Sopranos, my number one is always gonna be Deadwood until he watches it.
